Default Shocks

I got a 3" coil spring leveling kit for my '06 1500 reg. cab 4.7L from www.performancelifts.com and they mention not getting a taller shock because ataller shock would allow too much suspension travel. Anybody do anything like this on yours? If so, how's it look and ride now? Stock shocks or upgrades (taller / not taller)? I realize that I'm asking quite a bit, but I just want to make sure, wouldn't you do the same?

Here's the kit I got with all the info.

they are just trying to sell you a better shock than the factory ones. The shocks they are offering are stock height. I would get the upgraded shocks because the 9000 series allows you to adjust the stiffness with a small dial on the side of the shock.
I have never used this type of kit on my Ram, but I have purchased one for my boss's F350 and we kept the stock shocks. It looks and rides great.

I leveled mine out with torsion keys and HAD to get new, longer shocks (Bilsteins... they ride GREAT!) and not only because I wanted to. I literally, HAD to. It took all of 3 days after doing the leveling kit before one of the shocks was overextended and snapped in half, sending the fluid all over everything... including the brake on that corner. Wasn't as easy to stop after that, which scared the crap outta my wife, who was driving when it went.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the torsion bars are only on 4wd models. I have 2wd, which means we have different front end suspension parts. Also, if what I've read is correct, Bilstein isn't making shocks for the '06 yet.

I think I'm just going to get the 9000's so I can adjust the firmness. The only thing that I don't like too much on our rams is how the front end gets all boaty when turning. I just haven't read too many posts about guys leveling their '06 2wd's and I don't want to go with something that will only give me problems later on.

You're right. Torsion bars are only on the 4wd's, and Bilstein may not make a shock for you, but they didn't make one for me either, having a leveled front end. I had to buy a set that would fit the 2nd Gen. 2500's. Matched up good, but the wheel travel has increased a lot too. Haven't had any problems as of yet though... yet.

Thanks for your help, guys. Just trying to look before I leap. I don't want to end up with a front end nightmare. I'm going to get it within the next few weeks and put it on. I'll let everybody know how it goes and add some pics.
