Undercoating really required?
With the recent snow and salt on the roads here in Maryland, I have been contemplating getting my Ram undercoated. Is it worth the money you spend? I usually wash underneath real good at least once a month. If the undercoating is a good idea, what can I expect to spend?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Don't waste your money! If you go to a car wash and have the under-carriage washed occasionally during the winter, you will be fine. In addition, most new vehicles that I know of....for many years now....have provided owners with a 7 to 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty against rust-through.
I was told by my dealer back in 2002 when I lived in CT that undercoating is a do not! I recall them saying there is a lot of rust proof metal (galvanized?) in the old problem areas and undercoating is just a waste of time and money. My ’02 looks great even today. Red
I believe that undercoating is a great idea. If your roads get salted in the winter it will eventually get up into areas that will start to rust over time. I also believe that it makes a much better looking truck underneath. No matter what it will show signs of rusting along the drive line areas. I paid $200 at the dealer to have it done. Maybe I'm old school and like to play it safe.
Thanks for the replies. I am gonna see how it fares after this winter and make the decision. I am leaning towards no, but who knows. I appreciate it!

I have a 69 GTX that had factory undercoat and it hasn't rusted where it was coated. Yes, there's rust other places though. They use lots of salt around here too! It should help your resale value. Just my .02. YMMV

If your State doesn't use/need salted roads, then you're probably OK- unless you live near the Ocean.
The Ram is galvanized so none is needed but..... I did spray mineunderneath to keep the stone chips and cindernoise down.I do like the way it looks. I did it my self and feel warm and fuzzy that I did every thing I could to protect the under side of my truck when I am off roading.
