Milage Question
Okay, I did not want to post this question in the two posts asking how to cheat the od. I am wanting to know if there is a way joe regular could find out. I would not have cared until I spoke with a couple of dealers in my area, Oshawa, Ontario who stated that this is becoming an increasing problem.
So, my question is, does Carfax actually work and is a reliable source for Canadian vehicles? Has anyone used it? I know it works, but is it as acurate as the United States version? I understand that there is no perfect guarentee, but would love to try and reduce my risks.
You guys rock. Any used Dodge truck buying tips or look outs you can provide would be even more welcomed. Lots of stuff to read of here, too much to make a list of things to actually check before I purchase. I am looking either 2005 or 2006. With between 15000-30000 kilometers. (Not sure what that is in miles)
Thanks everyone!!!

I paid for a one month subscription to carfax a few years ago when I was trading vehicles. All the VIN #'s I put in just came back with records of who owned it and when. As far as maintenance history and "mileage fraud", Carfax doesn't know jack****.
My honest opinion is save your money. If you think you're interested in something, test drive it and look it over good. If you're not too mechanically inclined, take it to a shop you trust and have them check it for you. If the vehicle owner doesn't want youtaking it somewhere to get it checked out, forget it and look for something else.

Unfortunately, a good crook can cover their tracks well and the good guy gets screwed in the end. Carfax *can* work but only on obvious, blatent violations. Everytime you go to get and inspection, Carfax gets your mileage so it's at the very least reported yearly. With that said, Carfax is only about 70% accurate on their reporting.
I did find out a Jeep I bought was rolled back 50,000 miles through Carfax but this is because the guy was not a smart crook, a tote-the-note car salesman . This was also about a year after I bought the Jeep (paid cash). I went to go after him and found out he had already died of a heart attack so, could it be Karma got him before the law did???
