Today I was checking my tire pressure and It is a little low. My truck had 245/70/17 tires, but recently I got new tires. 265/70/17. I'm not sure if I should go with the PSI that is on the door, or the max psi on the tires. The sticker on the door says 35psi, but tires say max 44psi.Should I still use the factory sticker, even though I have different size tires?????

 

I'd go with what the recommendation on the tires say. I usually run mine at 38-40 psi year round.

Max pressure on the tires means just that MAX, not normal.

If you are running the truck with a full load in the bed then run the max pressure.

For everyday use and light loads, run 35-37 PSI.

Any higher and you will wear a bald spot in the middle of your tire but get great fuel mileage. Any lower and you'll get 2 wear strips on the outter edges, with poor fuel mileage. Either way they'll run like crap in the rain.

 

I have noticed that fuel milege went down after I got them, but I thought it was because of a bigger tire.

 

your tire pressure on the side of the door is for the best wear with the stock ssuspension at least thats what the shop up the street told me. i run 35 all year round though. jus my .02

 

the fact that it is a bigger tire does have something to do with your fuel mileage going down, but there are also other factors that can cause it too

 

When you get 265/70/17 after having 245/70/17 your speedo/odometer will indicate 5% low. Gas mileage will appear to be reduced by 5% also. 265=660 rev per mile, 245=690 rev per mile.

 

Alright. I'm at 37 for a 4 tires. I'll just have to see where I stand at on friday with fuel. I don't bother doing the calculations but I know driving to and from work in 1 week is about 220 Mi, and my gas gage reads a hair above 1/2
