RE: When to do first oil change on a Hemi
I read thru these post and realized I was at 1000 miles on my truck, so to be safe I called the dealer. He explained to me that changing at anything before 3000 miles was not a good idea, Dodge reccommends changing at 3000 miles and he said if I did it before then, then I might have trouble later on down possibly with the warranty. He explained to me that the oil in the truck from the factory is what they call the "break in oil" and its designed to stay in the truck for 3000 miles.......little food for thought, before you change it check with the dealer

Yeah I had a free oil change when I bought my truck so I had it changed at 3000 miles like they dealership specified. I'm just going what they say to do. I got another free oil change at 6,000 miles because I had to get a new transmission so I am going to full synthetic 5w-20 royal purple at 9,000 miles. Our hemis take 7 qts, correct? What oil filters do you all reccomend? I have always used K&N's in my other ram but I don't know if there is a better one for the hemi.

You might want to check with the dealer on the synthetic oil if you havent already. The guy told me they frown upon that at such early mileage

9,000 miles doesn't seem like too early for synthetic to me. I'll ask around though.
