If you are going to get a RAM, purchase the extended warranty, you will need it. Gas millage with the 4.7 is ok around 14 in city and 18 hwy. Mine is a 06 quad cab, Not Mega, 4x4 thunderoad 20 inch tires automatic 5 speed. As for apperance the truck is nice, way big inside, the seats suck as even with nerf bars you have to slide out and im 6'2. If you plan to tow anything major go for the cummings. I towed a bobcat on a dual wheel trailer once got 7 mpg!!!!The HEMI is all Hype. I got one in my 06 cherookee, It has hesitation on acceleration at Hwy speeds due to a lag in the cyld restarting. its a step down motor to conserve fuel. watch out for the transmmissions!! at a min. I would make sure if gas is a issue you ask if they come with manual hubs if you do not need the 4x4 that much. a bit of inconveience but will save you on gas. Also upgrade your rims and tires. the stock 17 inch on a 4x4 of this size just not right, go for the 20" .

I never thought of getting manual hubs. I think Warn makes a conversion? Somewhat new to the 4x4 thing - always had 2x4 and had fun getting stuck. So, I thought when in 2wd the front hubs were disconnected anyway?

One last question here >> My wife is trying to con me into getting a regular cab so that we can afford another car payment so that she can get a new car. One of her big points is that it will probably get better gas mileage since most of my driving is city.

2005 Reg. Cab 4.7 4x4
2005 Quad Cab 4.7 4x4

Which one would get the better mileage? Or would they be the same roughly?

naturally, the less something weighs, the less fuel it will burn. BUT, a standard cab will be faster and you may be more prone to get on it more than the heavier quad cab.

With a gentle foot, either one will make you a very happy owner. With a heavy foot, you will be equally as happy, but frown more at the pumps.
