Default Sub and amp acting wierd

I have a 400wt rms subwoofer. http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Speci...cation.do#tabs

with this amp: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Speci...cation.do#tabs

When I try and hook it up on both channels and turn it up, the amp will go to protective mode... I am going to hook another sub up to that amp this weekend, will it handle it??

Thanks!!!!

Sony car audio sucks. It's probably just overheating like mad. I had an amp that would overheat within 10 minutes of being used, even lightly.

I've stuck to phoenix gold since then, never had a problem.

should I hook a fan around it? It is behind to seat so I'm not really sure what all to do. Do you think the sub is too powerful for the amp? The sub will "gitter" then the amps protective light comes on after 2 seconds.

sounds like you have the amp turned up too high. Also that amp is kinda weak for those speakers. If your planning on adding a second one, upgrade the amp.

How do you have it hooked up? If you wired the VC's in parallel you are presenting to low of a load to your amp if it is bridged.

friends got an amp just like that it sux cause sony cant make anything that has to do with audio mobile good at all :P EWWWW!!

anyways it was overheating like there was no tommorow, we took and made a lil wooded frame to pick it up off the ground and cool it, i think we connection it to the amp itself its on an angle i'd take pics but its not here anyways we just made it so air could get underneath and problems gone

It is bridged on both channels and wired in parallel... Now it is on one channel and works better at least. What do you guys think I should get for an amp? get a 4 channel amp for two subs? or two, two channel amps? And which ones?

Thank you!

It sounds like you are giving the amp to low of an ohm resistance. I think you you have the sub wired wrong, check these diagrams.
