Default Electronic 4x4

I am going to be selling my 00 Dakota, and getting a 07 1500 4x4 Ram with the Hemi. My question is they come with a **** that switches from 2 to 4 wheel drive. Has anybody had any issues or problems with this set up? My 00 Dakota has a floor shifter and I like to feel when you engage the transfer case. I like the 07 Ram, but this is my only concern.

I believe they only have the **** if you select the electronic shift on the fly transfer case so if you really want the manual shift (i'm the same way I prefer the manual shift on the fly) just lookf or a truck with that .

I believe it is optional... I think you pay extra to have that ****... I had it in my Dakota and it worked fine, but I agree with you guys, the actual shifter is much better

2005 was the last year that the manual transfer case was offered on the 1500. Only the electronic transfer case (a.k.a. the "weenie ****")is available on all 2006+ Ram 1500's.

It is still availabe on the 2500 and up as the standard transfer case.

I would do a SEARCH on this forum. I believe the question came up some time ago, and if i remember correctly, a couple of the guys had problems with the ***** and, wished they had gotten the floor shifter.

trust me i know that one. I'm a regular cab short bed guy that likes stick shift try finding that combination on a dealer's lot lol. Immmmppposssible. Although I don't mind the quad cabs in the 2500 or 3500 with a short bed if I want a half ton It's gotta be rcsb.

Ive hadone problem with my weenie **** since buying my truck 06 QC. I have the 5 position **** with the 4auto selection on it. I had been driving in 4HIon the beach all day without any problems. Then driving back to my house I hit a large puddle, about 2 inches deep and 20 feet long. Soon after hitting the puddle my service 4wd light came on. I came home and parked the truck. I thought it was weird that the light came on with less than 6k miles on the truck and in 2wd. I tried shifting into 4hi with no luck what so ever', so I turned the truck off and got out the owners manual. It said something about if its showing service 4wd to use the parking brake in case both front and rear axles disingage. To make a long story short my dash lights were showing my transfer case in neutral but I was wheeling in 2wd the rest of my vacation without a problem. I took it to my local dealer when I got back and the only problem the found was a code for an overheated actuator. They said I probably switched between 2, 4hi, 4lo to fast. THey said you have to leave it in each one at least 5 seconds before proceeding to the next. Ive onlyused 4wd a few times since then to pull people out of the ditch and stuff, but as soon as it warms up Im heading strait for the beach to see what happens.

the only problem I had with mine is one time I was getting into 4wd to pull someone out and it would not engage at all. there is a little pin hole button under it I pressed it and ever since then all is well. The one good thing about the "weenie ****" is that 4 wheel high can be shifted into while going 45 mph's or below, I have tested it out on multiple occasions. Otherwise I too prefer the floor shifter but this has a lot less bulk in the cab.
