Dealer ship costs
My Dodge service dept at merrick Dodge in LI NY is charging $150.00 for transmission fluid change that includes both filters and $260.00 for front and rear differentials and transfer case fluid change on a 2004 Dodge QC 4wheel drive SB is that a good average price for a dealership in NY or are you guys out there paying a lot less
I will atempt to do the fluid changes myself in the summer but they are due soon andit is freezing outI am at 29500 and the books tell me to do the changes at 30000

RE: Dealer ship costs
I just changed my front and rear differential fluid myself after reading several other posts. It cost me about $60 and that was mostly the mobil 1 synthetic geat lube. I pulled both covers to make sure it was clean. I did it in my garage with a little heat, I would not do it outside in the cold. Mostly because the sealer to make the gaskets has to set up. I attached a web site to get you started if you so choose to go it alone. Remember that you have to put an addative in the rear differential if you have limited slip differential or anti-spin whatever thay are calling it. This inspired me to save money and will do the the other maintenance at 30,000. hope this helps Also did they tell you to change your spark plugs?

Thanks I will change it myself in the summer just way to cold right now I probably will not remove the differential covers unless I see something in the oil I should not be seeing when I pump them out they did say I should change my plugs and that if I do them myself to make sure they are copper plugs they said some guys are having trouble with regular and plattinum plugs

If they are replacing both filters, and many dealers don't because they don't drop the pan, and that includes either a refill or a complete change of fluid, $150 is a not a bad price. As you indicated, it's cold right now, and doing a tranny fluid change can be messy.
$260 for both differentials and the transfer case seems a bit expensive. But then the local dealer here wants $125 per unit, which comes to $375.

I would recommend that you remove the differential covers. This way you could clean off the magnet of any metal shavings(i think the rear only has the magnet). Also, alot of people have found clips on the magnetthat have fallen out. Minimum, I would remove the rear cover.

Also, I don't have one of those pumps so I did something alittle different on the front differential to fill it. Once I got it put back together I left the plug out and filled it by putting it in through thebreather hose that is at the top of the differential cover and a breather hose run up under the hood. Just under 2 quarts and it started to run out the plug, done, put the plug in.
