Default turn signal problem

when you all turn your turn signals on, do they go on/off right along with the blinker in the cluster? well, mine doesnt, and i didnt know if this was common or not. but it seems as if the blinker in the gauge is faster the the signals themselves.

theres one question. heres the other.

a couple of months ago, i was going for a left turn. so i put on the signal and the LAMP OUT light came on, so i thought, "Oh, just a dead bulb in the left rear." well so have it, i hit a bump and the LAMP OUT light went off and the rear signal was working again. now, sometimes when i am driving for a while, 1hr or so, the LAMP OUT will jump on and right to off when i hit a bump, whenhit my brakes it will go on and as soon as i let go, it goes off, or when iuse the left signal.
could this problem just be a short in a wire some place?

Yeah, pretty much. LOL. Sounds likeeither an exposed wire, a short, or something not plugged in all the way. I would pull the tail light (it is the rear, right?) and make sure all the wiring harnesses are plugged in all the way and that there are no nicks or snags on the insulators that surrounds the wire. If that doesn't do it, the only other thing that I would check would be the fuses. Maybe one has rattled or bumped itself loose. That's about the extent of my knowledge on bad lights. Sorry.

I just replaced the actual bulb seat (where the bulb is actually placed in the taillight)in my truck today for the same problem. You can get it from lmc truck for 20 bucks plus shipping. This might also be your first problem too.

Oh and just so you know it isn't just you, my dad works for the county and he said half the dodge trucks they bought new had to have that piece replaced within the first year. You would think they would make a better part than that on a new truck.

yeah, the left (drive side) rear. i havent had a chance to run threw the wires yet because i work mid shift and was on 12's for a couple weekends (damn c-130's always breaking [>:])... but once i get a chance to dig into my Haynes manual i will trouble shoot it.

also, what is up with my signal lights not blinking on/off the same time the signal light in the dash? weird stuff i tell ya.

oh, and thank you for the help[sm=smiley20.gif]

My Ram turn signal indicators on the dash are not the same speed as the outside lamps either. The dash cluster and many other functions run through the Integrated Power Module. All of the lights on the truck run through this. On older cars and trucks the signals went through a relay (flasher) that controlled all of the “blinking” inside and out. Just new technology.
