My 06 2500 ram 5.7 reg cab 4x4 has the six sp manual... If your looking for all out tire smoking drag racing the automatic is faster....

The 6sp is like driving a school bus, it is geared low to get the max amount of power from the hemi, it has all the awsome power, not a lot of speed...

On the high way in 6th, thier's a awsome amount of accleration once you have worked threw the gears, The 6sp manual is not a performance inspired design, its built as a heavy duty truck transmisson.

I don't want to convince any one that a 5.7 6sp is slow, it's quite quick for a 3/4 ton truck and I like shifting my on gears...and I will never go back to automatic...

Acceleration and towing are better in a automatic because the trans fluid takes the abuse, not the clutch...It's driver preferance..

Exactly what I say abauot the manual. On hands total control of the engine is what I'm looking for . It won't replace my 93 RX , but somewhat remind me of the good old days, downshifting from 80mph into a 180 degree off-ramp and snuging the curve without having to brake to much. I know I can't have what I use to with the sports car but I think the 6 speed is the way to go to have more control of this 5k beast in all those situations.

When it comes time to overhaul my engine and trans, I plan on replacing the 545-RFE with the G56 manual. I'm pretty sure it can be done withoutmuch specialized work. I'm hoping it is as simple as to replace the 5-45RFE and associated PCM with the G56 and associated PCM. Might need a new drive shaft but that is about all I can think of.

thiers a little more to it...the rear axle on the 2500 is not the same as a 1500, I doubt the 2500 drive shaft is the same as a 1500, so somewhere in this process a ring and pinion may need to be swapped out.

Thier are two versions of the getrag 6 sp transmisson in the 2500, I don't have the G56 in mine, But I'm sure the 4.7 6 sp uses one of the getrag transmissons that is in the 2500..
