Default Off the shelf coolant?

Has anybody used engine coolant they got locally or do you have to get it from the dealer? I was reading my specs and it says you have to use the HOAT type coolant and mixing with other coolants can cause problems.

Zerex G-05 coolant can be purchased at Napa and Pep Boys, to name a few. It is formulated especially for Ford and DC vehicles. Avoid Dexcool like the plague. If you prefer to use one of the new "universal" coolants, just make sure you flush with distilled water until clear before you pour in the coolant. Always use distilled water.

I saw that Zerex G-05, but wasn't sure if I could just pour it in. Thought I would check here first. Thanks.
