High Altitude Drivers...

Anybody inRocky Mountain Statesusingtheir SuperChips 3815 and the 87 octane pgm with high altitude gas (85 octane Regular)???

 

What does Dodge say? In the owners manual they recommend using only 89 octane in the 5.7. Do they recommend anything differant for high alt drivers? If they do, I imagine that it would be ok to run with 85. Go to the superchips forum (www.flashpaq.com) and Ron at SC should get back to you with an answer. I never really thought of the alt with octanes... so is 93 like rocket fuel for you? If so, lucky....

 

To follow-up. I live above 6000' MSL. Using the SuperChips 3815 and their87 pgm I am able to run 85 octane fuel (high altitude regular) without any "ping" or knocking. So far only daily driving without heavy loads or towing. I have jumped on it several times going up steep grades with no sign of any knocking.Runs better than it did with the stock program using 91 octane. It shifting is much improvedand nolonger has flat spots or lags or hunts in overdrive. I'll post again after I have run enough miles to know the city and hwy mileage numbers.I previously ran the performance pgm and several variations of shift patterns. This pgm seems to produce good smooth power that works better in mud and snow than the performance pgm did. Likely partly due to the fact I have 4.56 gears and tire spinning is still an issue if traction is low. There is always debate if gas milage is better with premium fuels. If my overall fuel economy goes down I'll let you know. But you can run the cheap stuff above 6000'...
