Default replaced plenum gasket...5.9L

ughhh took a chunk out of my thumb the size of texas, but was worth it!
i was having bad pinging problems and thought it was the plenum and sure enough, had more oil in my intake manifold than was in the dam oil pan.
drained my oil and turned out to have only 2 1/5 qts in the pan. so while i was at it added a 180* t-stat (to help with my new superchips) and all new manifold gaskets.

so if any of you guys with the 5.9 have pinging problems think it might be bad gas or somthing, make sure you peek down your throttle body with a flashlight. if you see oil then bam! new plenum gasket is in the works.

i had this problem on my 96 ram but was told by a couple people that after 99 or 2000 Chrysler had addressed this problem and started using better gaskets and such but not true.
they make replacement plenum pan kits but money is tight right now and could only afford the $30 felpro kit. (manifold gaskets and plenum gasket) .the good kits come with a new plenum plenum plate , new bolts and good gasket.

just letting all you 5.9L 3rd gen guys know.
if you need more info go check with the 2nd gen guys theyre all over this issue...
happy motoring!

I've checked not to long under my throttle body. How many miles you have? Also how long did it take you about?

i have 94,000 miles took me about 3 1/2- 4 hours but i have done it before so first time took me about 7 hours.
advice: get a fuel line removal tool 3/8". this way you wont have to remove the fuel rails or injectors. get the aps precision plenum kit.i will be getting one but dont have the money right now. (actually there is one for sale on this forums classifieds for $100)

its actually pretty straight foward and there is a diy on the 2ng gen page...
dont forget a torque wrench (inch lbs and ft. lbs) i didnt use either one but it is recommended

OH!! dont forget to drain some antifreeze or when you take your kegger off it will drain into the oil...
and dont forget new manifold gaskets!
and while the kegger is off its a excellent time to change your cap/rotor/wires/plugs. (so much easier!)

I was lucky, I had a '98 RCSB 5.9 4x4 that I traded with 68k miles on it, never developed it, while I had it anyway...

I just did my cap, rotor, plugs and wires. At 61,000 right now on my 02. No oil consumption or any yet. I may just go for a M1 intake manifold to avoid everything when it does happen in the future.

i know i know i know, but for right now i just wanted to get the leak stopped.
i will in the near future be replacing my plenum with the aps precision setup. just have to get some work going, the economy is killing me. ( im self employed and the housing market and new construction is way way down!)
