I know some of you guys read my posts about me getting new headlights and I talked to Chad at unique coatings about the HID's and said i may probably get another kit not from him that will save me about 150 - 175 bucks and he responded to my email with this.... "if you don't purchase the HIDs from us, that is fine, just know that the 02-05 rams are the most difficult vehicle to get an HID kit to work properly on. Our kits are the only ones designed specifically for a ram, and have a "flicker-free" guarantee - meaning the kit is garanteed to have 0 issues out of the box.

The 02-05 rams are computer controlled, and without the proper kit, you will damage your FCM, which runs ~1300.00 to fix.

I'm not trying to scare you, but just saying, when it comes to HIDs, its better to purchase a quality kit from the start designed to work on your vehicle, than to choose a kit that saves you 50-100 dollars, and have nothing but issues and component failures."

Is this true or just bs because if i were to buy from him, the total cost of the headlights would be $525

it is true that most cheapo kits will have problems and the infamous flickering. i have heard that chad's products are great and have no issues. also 525 is a reasonable price and thats what it cost if you want hids... but i dont know about the damaging the pcm part never heard of that before...

 

A while back I started to buy some ebay HID kits but everywhere I read people were getting flickering and strobing from them. However, there are some threads around where people have figured out the trick to them and it really is no more than what Chad has already done himself and included in his kits.

Now I didnt buy ebay kits and I did buy Chads and can say they are totally great. But I got his because there were in a Group Buy and because he gave a lifetime on anything and everything with them.

But in his kits is the normal HID bulbs and ballasts. Also there are resistors with heats sinks (to trick the computer into thinking there are regular filament bulbs there) so you do not get any "lamp out" on the dash and he also includes the relay which is need to keep the HIDs from flickering.

So on some of thie kits people are buying from ebay, they are adding a relay and resistors and getting the same results. They just bought a cheaper kit and not much warranty. Ebay kits are from China and so are Chads. Mine has Chinese characters all on it.

I paid about 330 for my HID headlights and fogs. I understand thats a bit more than the cheap ebay price of $60 a kit but I will never have to worry about emailing someone overseas or buying new ballasts or bulbs.

to me it does bc its a quality kit you know will work...maybe you can talk to him and ask him to do a group buy on here since he did one on dodge talk. that will make the price cheaper

 

To me it was worth it because he gave lifetime on everything and at least he is in the continental US and not overseas.

 

when i asked him what i should put in the box so he would know the headlights were from me he asked for me to put a bunch of things on the paper including name, address, phone and my username. Why would he want the user name from DF to be included?

 

maybe you get a discount for being from DF?

 

i never said to include your name. i said asked him if he would do a group buy on here so it would be cheaper. he just had one on dodge talk

 

that's what i was thinking becuase I don't know why he would want my user name but he already told me the set price so I'm not sure what it was for...
