I made this like a couple of months ago and never posted pics. Somebody sent me a message wanting pics and i had some free time so i figured i would show whoever is willing to look. Enjoy.

Parts used: 4" K&N filter(doesnt have to be K%N), one reducer coupling 4" to 3", one 4" coupling, one 4" street 90, one 4" street 45, PVC glue, whatever color paint you want (i used high temp paint) and a section of 4" PVC pipe. They sell like a 2-3 foot section at lowes and a street 45 and 90 is basically justa 45 or 90 degree piece of PVC that has the connector peice on it so the other peice of PVC can slide in. You dont need a piece that has the connectors on both sides, this will just require you to cut more pipe when you dont need to. SO here goes. Also, i think this is optional or may be different on some trucks but there is a hose that plugs into the back of your hemi hat. take that off and you wannago to the parts store and get about 2-3 feet of it. and you will need a new plug or something to make it connect to the intake. I drilled a half inch hole and threaded it and put a new plug in so it would have a secure fit... i dont know if all trucks have this or just 02s or what, hell i dont even know what its for but i make sure i could connect it and you will see if you look further down. i kinda highlighted for you... but you can see the plug just the hose

I guess i didnt take as many pictues as i thought i did, but basically you need to connect your reducer to your throttle body( if you have never cleaned this, now would be a great time!)and kind of connect the pieces to make it fit. I can go ahead and tell you your section of 4" PVC is somewhere around 6-8 inches. something like that so if you want you can cut it to 1 foot to make it easier to handle. Im a pipefitter so i deal with PVC ona regular basis and just eyeballed it and cut it... kinda dont recommend that tho.so put your small pieces together set them in the engine bay where they are going to go and measure what you need to cut the 4" piece to. put it all together (WITHOUT glue) andyou should have something like this.


You can twist the 90 and 45 to make the filter sit how you want or whatever. Get your angles like you lilke and grab you a marker. put a small line from the 45 onto the 4 inch pipe and one on the 90 to the 4 inch. This way when you take it apart you can put it back together and your angles with be correct. Now take it apart and glue. Go grab a sip of water while that dries (got to stay hydrated ). After that you can paint. I did several light layers so it took a while. And put in your plug if you want.

How do you keep the hot air away from the filter?

 

didnt do anything to block hot air. the airbox that comes with it has a port right behind the headlight so the only way you would get true cold air is to route more pipe or more your filter closer to the ground. you could just build another box to go around the filter but then it wouldnt be much different. i figured every other intake doesnt have anything to block heat, mine doesnt either, from what i understand the vararam is the only one that moves the intake or hoses so to speak so that it gets true cold air. every other intake is just actually an intake. as is this one if you want to be true about it. but it is what it is and the answer to your question is nothing

 

would you recomend this for someone who offroads? I was thinking about doing this with a the stock airbox and a k&n drop filter.

 

i go offroad during hunting season, but not anything serious. if you are going to be during anything you would worry about a lot of water splashing up then no i would just do a drop in... in my opinion

 

would this work on a 00 (2nd gen) 1500 with a 5.2? cause i see that our throttle bodies are angled differently, and i think theyre different sizes as well.

 

'i would say so. just have to make sure you get the right size coupling to fit the TB and you might have to do something a lil differnt to make it fit on there being its angled different but i have never seen one so i cant say for sure if you could but my guess would be yes.

 

ok, i was originally gonna do this this weekend, but i found a SC 3715 on ebay instead. lol. and hopefully it wont end before i can get a bid on it. but it said it ended at 4PM PDT on friday, and ill be well off by that time. lol. i just hope my paypal goes through now.
