Depends on witch cam you go with... If you go with the comp 260s or 268s then no it is not a must to have additional parts to be safe ... But if you with the comp 273s you would need springs, retainers, and raise your rev limitor with a programer...

Don't nick your cam bearings when you pull the old one out or slide the new one in. As I understand it, cam bearings are not serviceable in this engine.

Make sure you lube the cam extremely well so you done wipe out a lobe. Things to possibly replace while doing it are plug wires, plugs, hoses, tstat, timing chain, oil, coolant, PS fluid (same as trans), belt, filters, pushrods and springs.

Did I miss anything........LOL

Change the springs and pushrods. You will also need some form of a tune to run the cam on. Other than that, if you do the swap right there shouldn't be any reason for breakdown.

Would I just buy a programmed tune to hook up to the computer or would I need to do that myself?

Weed is correct, Ecept I wouldn't bother with the chain if the engine is under 100K. Go with some shorty wires. Also since you have the engine pulled apart, If you really want to complement your cam, do up your exhaust and put nice set of headers.

Any idea which cam you want to do? Personally Id go with a Custom grind and increase that lift Suck as much as that low end torque out of the engine as I can. Definitly need stronger springs if you do something like that.

Mine is at 68 and I didnt do my chain either BTW. I didnt do my hoses or belts either because they were in such great shape.

And if you buy that cam and lifters in that link for 800+ Im gonna come over there and beat you with that cam. Thats just crazy pricing and crazy talk right there.

Now I would NOT buy anything from Franks Racing and I have my personal reasons which everyone else knows. But I wll give you their link so you can look at the cams and get an idea on them. You also need to go to your profile and add your trucks info in there so we can see it and help you more.

The most used cams Ive have seen are the 6.1, 260, 268, sidewinder, spartan and 210

Here is a 260 over on DT for sale

www dodge talk com/forums/showthread.php?t=279580

Here is a SCT tuner for sale on DT also

www dodge talk com/forums/showthread.php?t=280766

You need to add dodge and talk back together as one word.

Franks Racing INC - camshafts
Inertia Motorsports - camshafts
KRC Performance - camshafts

Based on those specs that is a very mild cam. If you are going to go through the process of swapping out your cam you should really look at something that will give you more bang for your buck. Any of the options that are listed above by weed would be a good choice or you could always call up intertia and get a custom grind to meet the exact needs of your application.
