60k service question...
i have a 04 ram1500 with 5.7 hemi. and well i do the normal oil change when needed. but lookin back thats about all ive done over the years when i bought it new and i do alot of highway drive'n and live and travel to an area were im dealin with temps of -20's in the winter and high 90's in the summer. so my question is now that i'm hittin 60,000 miles what should have done to get it up to date on services? any help would be nice..thanks..
Sub,d Really, c'mon foot you can do better than that, Ok i'll take the reins here I guess, I'm near too 8000 miles away from 60 k so i've actually been making a list in my head. Althogh the manual doesn't mention differential changes for the first 100k I'm doing it at 60 k changing too rp w/ additive, also all filters are changed oil gas pcv, erg too name a few,.A tranny flush is a must and i'd finish with a serpentine belt r/r. It'll set you back at least 300 bills diy/tranny shop but well worth it...oh yeah spk plugs every 30 k per manual. Good luck dude./bud
First off, go here and get a manual.
Now to address what rocket has mentioned.
No, the manual states that the front and rear diffs need fluid changes every 15,000 miles. The transfer case needs to be changed every 30,000 miles
No serviceable gas filters on our truck. The PCV and EGR should be checked and replaced if they are throwing codes
I dont like trans flushes. Just dropping the pan and replacing the fluid and filters is a safer alternative and also happens to be the manufactures recommended way of changing the trans fluid. Plus its usually half the cost.
Spark plug changes on the hemi is a b!tch. Supposed to change them every 30,000 miles but you can easily get away with 60,000 or more. I changed my originals at 130,000 miles and I never once had a misfire or any kind of engine problems and the plugs looked fine, just a larger gap but no structural damage. I wouldnt recommend waiting that long, but, it is what it is.
