Default Motor Hoist attachment points

Wondering what the best way is to lift a 5.7 with a cherry picker. I see slings that use 2 bolts to attach to and lift the motor, where can I bolt this up? Or could I wrap straps around the whole motor or manifolds to lift it out?
If I can I would like to leave the intake manifold on

I've lifted engines using a ratchet strap and wrapping the nylon part around the exhaust mainfolds and hooking it to itself or the chain on the hoist. You could also use a trans bellhousing bolt. The biggest thing to worry about is making sure the engine will pull up evenly and not get cocked too much to one side once lifted. I liked using ratchet straps if I'm going around the harmonic balancer/front accessories or using the maifolds because you can tighten them up evenly before you yank it out.
Seems like only a couple of engines I've removed have had the hook mounted on the intake manifolds to use.
You could go around the whole underside of the motor if you wanted, just make sure the engine won't slide once lifted.

Alright thanks that did the trick! However, I can't get the motor to pull away from the transmission, is there any tricks I can use to pull them apart? All the bellhousing bolts are out and I can't see anything holding it back

you will have to slide it forward as well as upwards.
also did you unbolt the flex plate bolts to the torque convertor?

Yeah I lifted it up and pulled it forward it would hardly move forward.
What do you mean by the flex plate bolts?

there are 4 13mm bolts that bolt the flexplate to the torque converter, look underneath between the motor and trans, u will see at least one, u will need to rotate your harmonic balancer with a 21mm socket/wrench so u can get all of them unbolted, and yeah i used the ratchet strap technique too, i usually used at least 2, usually a third to keep it from turning or tipping, cuz u do have to lift it quite high to get it out!

You should be able to seperate the engine from the trans by slowly pulling them apart. The proper method is to leave the TC stuck in the transmission by unbolting the TC from the flexplate. But it can be carefully done maintaining the angle between the engine and transmission. Good luck....

So you're saying I could pull the torque converter with the engine? I'll give that a shot, that sounds tricky but it'll have to be done

Yes the TC can be pulled with the engine but it is not the recommended way as stated before. The TC will easily bind if the engine trans alignment is off. Good luck...
