Lamp out indicator light
So my "lamp out" light came on this morning when I started the truck, got out checked the lights, and did not see anything out. Is this something I should look into or has anyone heard of this?
My dads truck has the same sort of problem. Only difference is that it comes on and off, making it sound like he has the door open with the key in the ignition.
sbsga (I think) told me to check the taillight circuit boards.
After I finally got the taillights off, checked everything, it does it MUCH less now.
Just thought I'd throw that in.

Lamp Out Indicator Lamp-On Message -
Each time the cluster receives a lamp out indicator lamp-on message from the FCM indicating that an inoperative headlamp (low or high beam), turn signal lamp, or brake lamp (excluding Center High Mounted Stop Lamp [CHMSL]) circuit has been detected, the lamp out indicator is illuminated. The indicator remains illuminated until the cluster receives a lamp out indicator lamp-off message from the FCM or until the ignition switch is turned to the Off position, whichever occurs first.
Actuator Test -
Each time the cluster is put through the actuator test, the lamp out indicator will be turned on, then off again during the VFD portion of the test to confirm the functionality of the VFD
and the cluster control circuitry.
The FCM monitors each of the headlamp, turn signal lamp, and brake lamp (except CHMSL) circuits to determine the condition of these exterior lamps. The FCM then sends the proper lamp out indicator lamp-on and lamp-off messages to the instrument cluster. For further diagnosis of the lamp out indicator or the instrument cluster circuitry that controls the indicator, (Refer to 8 - ELECTRICAL/INSTRUMENT CLUSTER - DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING). For proper diagnosis of the exterior lighting system circuits, the FCM, the PCI data bus, or the electronic message inputs to the instrument cluster that control the lamp out indicator, a DRBIIIt scan tool is required. Refer to the appropriate diagnostic information.

checked low/high beams, fog, turn signals all around, brake lights, tag lights, dome lights, no problems. it came on first thing in the morning and was not on the night before, it went off after a few seconds and then popped back on and beeped while driving, so I guess nothing to worry about? Thanks for the replies I know it seems like a pretty simple question lol
Take the tail lights out and wiggle the wiring that goes into the part where the bulbs plug in at. Some rides had bad wiring back there.

When mine did this about a year ago it was a head light going out. Showed the indiator light for a couples days before the light actually went out, came on somedays and off others til the light finally failed..
I'll keep an eye on it, just changed the oil today to mobil 1 high mileage syn, slight pain the butt getting the filter out, pretty cramped with the vararam hose, oh well just an oil change not that bad lol.
sounds like the tail light circuit boards to me, i had that problem for months some days on others off and blew bulbs every once and a while...replaced em for 27 bucks at rockauto.com and had em in 3 days....buy them in a pair that way you have a new one incase the other side goes out....and buy the dorman ones ive read they are better....
