Thought this would be fun for everybody. Thought I'd do something fun after I heard some bad news about my truck yesterday.....I'll post pics after I hear the right answer.

Here's the truck;

2004 Dodge Ram 4x4, Hemi, Automatic, AWD trans case, 79K miles.

• About two months ago my truck started making a faint "whirring" noise while slowing down. Very faint and seems out of place. Took it to the dealership and 3 other places in town and they can't find the problem. Theories were, u-Joints, transfercase, transmission, etc etc.
• Last month, noise turns into a slight vibration, still very faint. Truck vibrates when speeding up, and still makes the "whirring" noise when slowing down (just getting louder). Also now notice a definite clunk when shifting into reverse.
• Last week I hear a very slight metal in metal high pitch wine.
• On my up a mountain pass yesterday doing about 65 mph the truck makes a terrible noise like manual trans gears grinding and the truck coasts to a stop. Truck will not move in 2WD, just makes grinding noises underneath. Truck will move in 4LO but major clunking/banging going on.

What's did I break? Good Luck!

 

Oh, forgot to mention that the trucks did move on it's own power in 2WD in reverse and drive only if I was VERY light on the gas. Any amount of throttle the trucks stops and makes noise.

Also, provide some reasoning for your answer.

You broke something in the drivetrain.

 

output shaft bearing went out?

 

lxman1 got it....I did break something. Here's a hint, the AWD transfercase is what prevented the truck from moving but it wasn't the actual problem.

Your muffler bearings are bad.








Your auto engagement of the axles crapped out?

 

I think that's drives the rotator splint (Road Trip)
