Ok... just got in from a local Toyota dealership. Dodge is definitely smoking crack! The Toyota stealership offered $30k for my truck! Toyota is my second choice, but I'll give some other Dodge dealerships a shot first. I'm just not 100% sure I want to be in a Toyota. If I can't work a deal with Dodge I'll probably just keep my truck, as I'm 100% sure I want to be in a Dodge!

as stated before toyota can offer you 30k because they are not going to take 12-14k off the sticker like dodge will so your going to pay close to sticker for the toyota.if you pay close to sticker for the ram im sure the dealer would offer you more but they are not going to give you 30k for a truck you probaly paid 32k for new even if your msrp was 42k

Good to see someone can understand this concept.

Dealerships are there to make money, one way or another.

I'm just curious if any of you have tried to trade-in your 2010 and what value did you get?
I am curious on why you want to get rid of your 2010 for a 2011? Unless its a classic/collector vehicles in general are a depreciating asset. I would run numbers on trade in versus selling on your own. Not sure for your state, but in Az sales tax on the new vehicle is based on sale price minus trade in. If you have no trade in then sell tax is the sale price of the new vehicle. Make sure you can recoup that much selling on your own.

I never said anything about a dealership not making money. But to have that much difference in value is ridiculous. Further, someone would have to be pretty crazy to pay higher than sticker (which is where I'd be if I bought a new dodge) vs under sticker with Toyota. So if I still don't "get it" feel free to enlighten me.

1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, or 1 ton? 5.7 or diesel?

It's all a numbers game. All in how much profit they have in that certain vehicle for sale. The truck I bought for $28k (6k under retail) obviously still had quite a bit of profit left in it (they probably bought it from an auction for dirt cheap) so they gave me 5k more for my trades than every other chevy and dodge dealership offered me.

You guys are talking about getting trucks for 12-14k off MSRP. Come to a town next to a military base and you will never see that. Dealerships would not budge on price. They'd show me MSRP, then the invoice price, and then rebates off of invoice (usually about 6k) and that's it. It pisses me off so much that dealerships around military bases take that much advantage of military personnel. I could never get a deal like you guys are talking about unless I drove several hundred miles away. If I walk away from a deal (which I have, a lot), they know the next person will fall for it. I've also seen a lot of used car dealerships sell trucks for close to 5k ABOVE retail just because they might have a lift and some mud tires on it.

Wow, wanting to trade off a 09 or 10? Gee, I try to keep a truck as long as I can like 12 to 14 yrs. Heck I still have my old '95 z71 that I just gave to my 17yr old. He should get about 5 yrs out if it. If you take care of it the truck it should last you a long time.

I heard that! I used to trade my truck in on a new one every 3 years, but no more, I put too much time and effort into mods and NEVER see a dime back for any mods. I've always had daily drivers too, so my trucks never see more than about 8k miles a year. My '04 has about 46k miles on it and about $12k in mods in it (and that's with me doing 95% of the labor), I plan to have it a while...
