Best muffler
The XL has a built in resonator and i don't want an overly loud exhaust. Since i haven't heard a sound clip of either on a hemi i figured id go with a safe bet.
The AFE exhaust sytem is a straight through muffler design, full flow !!!Has perforations surrounding the center core to absorb unwanted resonance.Made from 409 SS.Well built, and sounds great. Not too loud, and has a nice growl at accelleration.
I am considering that system, but I want to hear someone weigh in with info on the MBRP system before I decide what I'll do
Which of these recomended systems would bolt right in with little or no modifications to the existing exhaust system? Say for a leased truck that you want to return to factory specs before turn in.
Installed the Muflex 14. 20 minute job laying in gravel driveway on old carpet.
no permannet modifications required and in theory should be 20 minute job to reionstall OEM muffler. It uses band clamps included so eaasier to remove.
I really like the sound and leaft resonators installed. Over 6K miles it has gotten throatier ( like much better) at first seemed quiet to me. Great sound when passing and deceleration

Not sure about best flow but I replaced my stock muffler with a flowmaster delta 40 muffler and It sounds perfect. I like my exhaust kinda loud but not enough to be obnoxious. This muffler was just what I wanted. Left the stock resonators on the duals.
I started a thread on the other site about X pipe vs Y pipe.
Ive seen a lot of threads on people replacing the restrictive Y pipe, with a Magnaflow unit (or other aftermarket Y pipe). I asked why hasnt anyone removed the stock restrictive Ypipe and replaced it with an X pipe. And making the truck "true" dual.
Two-2.5" pipes have a greater cross sectional area, then 1 3" pipe. So going from two 2.5" pipes down to one 3" is in someways a bottle neck in itself.
So my proposed idea, is to cut the stock Y pipe, replace it with an X pipe (or Xpipe muffler) and hook it up to the stock pipes. Thus no reduction in cross sectional area, and giving a true dual flow.

I have the complete AFE system and I like it...not too loud and sounds like the old mopar original to me, lol!
I have an 18" Magnaflow single in, dual out muffler that was installed last week. With the resonaters still in the truck sounded really good, but it wasn't as loud as I would have liked it. I will say there was no drone when on the highway, but when the MDS kicked in it sounded wierd. Today, I had my resonaters removed and it sounds so much better. The sound of the exhaust no longer sounds muffled and it sounds louder and throatier. On the downside, I can hear the droan on the highway. It does get quiet when the cruise control is set and the throttle is not used. When the MDS kicks in, it sounds better than it did. It now gives a low, deep moan. Overall, if I had to rate my exhaust on a scale of 1-10, I would give definetly give it a 10. No B.S.
