Default Who has a Recon LED 3rd brake light?

I've got a question for those that have one. I purchased one of the smoked ones and installed it. The brake light part works as designed but I don't think the cargo light does.

The cargo light has three settings; bright, dim, & off. When I unlock the doors it comes on bright and then fades down to dim eventually to off. When I press the cargo light button it comes on bright. That all seems to work fine. The issue is when I turn my lights on, parking or head, the cargo light comes on in the dim setting. It does this anytime the lights are on even driving down the road.

I thought I had a bad unit so I requested another one. Believe it or not, it does the same thing. I thought maybe the truck had a problem so I installed the factory light back in. Worked as expected. I'm lost at this point.

Anyone else have this problem?

dont know for sure but let me throw this out there. As we all know the led lights take way less power to run then the standard bulbs. In my old charger I had replaced the interior lights with led ones and at night they would glow just slightly when they were turned off. I did some checking and found that even when the interior lights of my charger were off there was still some power being sent to them and since led lights take a lot less power to run, that slight little bit of power was just enough to make them glow. Maybe these trucks are the same way. With the stock 3rd brake light the trickle of power is not enough to light the stock bulb but it may be just enough to make the recon led glow. Just a thought. Could be totally wrong though.

Valid theory. I called Recon and was told that it shouldn't do that. I've since pulled the wires from the cargo light as I don't really need it with the bed cover on.

I have the same light and it did the same until i bought some cargo bed led lights and wired them through the cargo light, now its not on assuming its drawing more power from the bed lights. They come on due to the led consuming less power.

X2, they look sorta cool! Mine actually stay on for 30 seconds or so after the truck is turned off, I'm assuming residual power in the system...

Sorry for dredgeing up an old thread. I just got a Recon 3rd Brake Light for my 2009. I'm also having the dim cargo light issue. Did anyone find a fix, or did Recon just ship you a new unit?

While I don't use the cargo light a ton, I do use it enough to where I can't just disconnect it.

Had the same issue recently and even returned the light. I ended up just putting in LED bulbs in the stock light and it did the same. Basically, they need a resistor because they require so little power draw. They'll stay on dim for about 30 minutes then shut off. I just bought this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=181189334168 and it fixed the problem instantly. I had to modify the brackets and solder on new connections but works like a charm.

I contacted Recon about the issue. They said it was a know problem with various models and years of trucks. They sell a resistor kit that clamps down on the cargo light power lead and ground to kill off the weak voltage. The kit was pretty squared away, but there was zero instructions on what to crimp it down on. Recon could only suggest the power and a "chassis ground." Since there's 4 wires (two white, two black), it was a guessing game on which was the right combination. It turns out to be with the key lugs downward on the harness, the white wire on the far right and then the black wire in middle left.
