Ford Ecoboost Vs Ram & Chevy

"The transmission behind the HEMI is already a six-speed."
It has first (1), second (2), second prime (3), third (4), fourth (5), and fifth (6).
This was stated by the Chrysler engineers, at last weeks Live Chat, regarding the 545RFE.
They mentioned that they are going to call it a six-speed transmission, in future literature?

They de throttle at shift points and at max rpm settings from Chrysler for added assurance to protect their warranty...that's what tuners are for...they hack the factory settings sort of speak. Not to mention...the shift pressure is set low for soft and comfortable shifts...not something high performance people like too see! So when ever you get close to WOT...as in racing, your engine de throttles all along the shift points and all the way up To WOT....it sux!

BTW, push the Tow/Haul and you'll use 2nd and 2nd prime. Our trucks just don't need the small transition between 1.75 & 1.5 during "normal" driving.
I do agree that the ratios in the Ford 6 speed would be better for towing and everyday driving as they're spaced out more.

In order to take advantage of all six: Start off in tow/haul mode and it shifts as follows:
1
2
2p
3
4
Disengage tow/haul and it shifts to:
5

I consider any transmission with 6 forward gears a '6 speed' no matter how the computer is programed.

Second primary is not considered a gear by Chrysler or tranny specialist and not used in normal driving conditions...it's useless other than for heavy towing. If you use it to race...you will loose valuable acceleration time and run slower ET's. Like you...I at first thought the same thing and disputed this but lost with transmission specialist and conceded. As of today (not tomorrow, lol) he 68RFE is Chrysler's only six speed transmission and with no primary gears. You can do as I did and call Chrysler and tell them it is a six speed and why you think it is...or ask your fav tranny specialist to see for yourself, tks .

Geez guys, I didn't mean to open up an esoteric discussion over how many bon-a-fide gears the 545RFE tranny has or doesn't have. Ran Jr's comment echos my sentiments best. Dodge is selling these truck regardless of the transmission on the strength of the Hemi. Ford manages to stay competative and sell trucks inspite of their engines. What would happen if GM, Toyota or Nissan sat up and took notice?

BTW...if it'll make you feel any better, this little boy didn't fair so well on his homework either, he he! 2nd prime in not used in limp mode like I stated...2nd and 3'rd are, 2nd prime is used for downshifting and tow assistance only so I stand corrected. But like I stated earlier here, I can only use 2nd prime when I "manually" shift with the column shift button and even while in tow haul mode. Is there anyone here who says that their truck uses 2nd prime without having to manually shift while in tow haul mode? In other words, my truck does not use 2nd prime while in tow haul mode unless I manually do it using the shift button and I'm wondering if any of you can. Could it be because I have an ST and those of you with SLT's and LT's can because of the floor shifter? tks!
