I would definetly wait for the 2014 silverado. I have a 2010 ram and its junk. The mds motor drops to 4 cylinders and runs like crap in the 30-45 mph range. I had 2 fords before and they ran alot better then my ram. But the 2014 chevy silverado will be the best truck ever. Chevy is investing millions right now on producing the next silverado. Worth the wait.

 

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Im still at that same spot. Im glad that someone brought up the MDS issue as I am very worried about it. In my very short 10 minute test ride with the Ram I felt a small vibration when the ECO light came on. The 2014 Silverado should be nice but I still think the Ram has the "meanest" look of any truck. Does anyone know what the negatives of driving in tow/haul mode or dropping to 5th gear is other than poor MPG's. It is impressive that the Ram still edged out the 5.0 F150 even with its handicapped transmission gear ratios. If Ram ups the anti and fixes the MDS drone issue and drops a 6 speed in could we call it the best truck out there?

 

We like our 09 Crew Cab 2wd with the 390HP 5.7 and 5 speed trans. We have pulled a trailer and had no issues with the tow/haul. As far as when it runs on 4 cylinders that has not been an issue and we can get 20-23 mpg at times.

If you do buy a 4th gen Ram, DO NOT buy one with the chrome bumpers and chrome clad (plastic chrome) wheels. The chrome started going bad the first winter at 3,500 mi. on ours and have yet to get any replaced.

 

The MDS isn't really an issue unless you insist on gutting the factory exhaust, with the factory single exhaust it is hardly noticible. You can get some vibration with the MDS, but not bad. Driving in Tow/Haul to avoid the MDS is retarded, as for actual towing - mine with 3.21's tows 5K like it is not there.

The front bumper on my truck has 3 rust spots, none on the back. That is the only part of the truck I'm not real impressed with. I'd still rather have the chrome then painted bumpers, no way the paint would stay on in the areas I drive in. IF you use it as a truck then forget about the silly 20" wheel and get the 17's. It increases the towing capacity, lets you use actual truck tires and makes it ride better. The 17's are actually aluminum wheels without the plastic cladding.

All that being said, I'd still keep the truck you have unless you have a burning desire to spend money.

 

Not really all that impressive when you consider: The 5.7L HEMI has a; .7L, 30 horsepower (gasoline), and a 27 lb. ft. of torque (gasoline) advantage over the 5.0L Ford. Running E85 fuel in the Ford will close the horsepower/torque gap with the HEMI AND likely give the 5.0L an edge over the HEMI in the same drag racing tests?

 

There you go dreaming again...you're such a funny guy, lol! The Ram "is" very impressive...it's sexy, it's sporty, it rides nice and it's extremely fast...and it's the meanest looking truck of the big three. If you like trucks that look like bricks going down the road, than the Ford is for you, lol! I told you before, if you care for the Ford so much then you belong on their forum selling it. Please don't take it out on us Ram folks if your fav truck can't hang. Granted it is an American company and I'm happy they finally seem to be getting the heads out of their asses for a change. Even Ford knows the Ram is better...why else would they compare against anything but the best to market their trucks. If you Ford guys need the money that bad, maybe I can talk to some Ram Peeps on here about setting up a collection for donations or a lunch benefit in honor of Ford if that will help...I'll see what I can do, lol!

I am merely trying to assist, the original poster, in making the right choice. Be it a Ford or a Ram. I never leaned him one way or the other. I simply stated that he should find the truck the HE likes the most, not what biased Ram owners like the most, and make his decision. The Ram is not the end all be all of trucks...except of course if you want crazy power (Ram SRT-10) or wicked off road capability (Ram Power Wagon).

I am a Ram owner! I LOVE my Ram Power Wagon! I would not trade it for any Ford, or any other make! I am just giving my unbiased suggestion to try both trucks out. From owning a Ram for the last six-years (With no regrets!) and driving the New 2011 Ford F-150 a couple of months ago, I feel that I would be doing a disservice by not sharing my experience. I beg to differ with you...I have STRONG feelings against what you SAY and not who you are so let's get that straight before we go any further. You've been doing nothing but DISSING the Ram 5.7 and BESTING it with the 6.2 and ECO Six, and now on this thread a with funky 5.0 running E85 fuel and you claim you are unbiased...spare me dude, lol! I Don't care how many Rams you have, you don't own a 4'th Gen 5.7 to be comparing anything against it. What you're actually doing is comparing your old Power Wagon against today's Ford technology and have no clue about these new Rams. NOW...I'm going to be truthful here, I've got nothing against Ford and I like Mustangs, my brother has one and I love it. I've been trying to drive you because of your one sided claims against the 4'th Gen Ram. And I don't care how long you've been on this forum, your story about having the chance to test drive the Fords didn't just fall into your lap and it smells like horse manure...I ain't buying it. For all I know you could be a spam bot or even worse, you sound like a damn Ram bot, lol! Wait, I take that back...you' re one of them Trolls huh, lol!

 

All this prattling about the new Ford truck engines, you just don't get it do you? The new F-150 power plants are too little too late sir. How desperate can they get, TWIN turbos? Sorry, that little 6 banger is still cannon fodder for the new Hemi trucks. Then the other "strategy" of cubic inches namely a 6.2L that barely puts out more than a 5.7 Hemi??? The 6.1L Hemi pumps out tons more power than the 6.2L Ford, pretty sad really. I almost feel sorry for Ford, they are flailing in the face of the Hemi. I see you don't even own a 4rth gen Hemi, maybe your time would be better spent driving one of those and getting a taste of some real power. Sorry, F-150's remain sadly underpowered and still occupy 3rd place at the light - right where they have always been......yawn.
