K&N CAI for 2011 Ram Warning!!!
Well I just installed my K&N CAI on my 2011 Ram w/ 5.7. I ordered it from Amazon for $229 shipped to my house. It took about 90 minutes and was relatively easy. Don't worry about disconnecting the battery, which you need to do for the computer to adjust to the new intake. I was worried about what problems that might lead to so I called the dealership and spoke to a tech. He said it wouldn't affect anything as far as theft codes for the stereo or anything else. So I disconnected the battery and had NO issues. I didn't even lose any pre-set stations and I didn't have to re-program the garage door openers. Everything was just as I left it. The only warning I would give, is that when you get to the part where you need to remove the Air Temperature Sensor, the instructions say to use caution because it is fragile. Thats an UNDERSTATEMENT!. Be sure to pull it straight out. Dont wiggle it side to side. I did and broke off a small plastic protective piece. The sensor was fine but the little plastic piece is now gone. Still works fine, but if I had broken the sensor off too, I would have been screwed. So be careful with that. It sounds good and looks good. I'll update with any power or economy changes later.
Make sure you check all you clamps for first couple weeks, they will start loosen up. As far as performance gains, I saw really nothing (13k with K&N installed), and my mpg's have stayed the same, maybe a slight improvement, but could be just a break-in period reason. I do like the sound of mine, I've had them in all my trucks through the years. If your IAT sensor ever breaks it's a relatively cheap replacement part to purchase. Congrats on the mod, you love it!!
