Go here and read about the different oils. I'm not plugging any of them but I was surprised by the results.

Go with synthetic! You can not go wrong and your motor will live a longer and happier life.

OK that's the party line, but I don't buy it.

I had a '08 QC with the HEMI, and exactly every 2500 miles my change oil message would come on. I didn't really care, as I had 5 yrs of free oil changes when I purchased it. It was no skin off of my nose, all it cost me was about an hour of my time. It didn't seem to matter how I was driving... I could drive it like I stole in on the hiway for 2000 miles and it would still go off at 2500, I could do the same thing with short in town runs, no change. I also tried driving it like I was well in to my 70s (and probably should've stopped driving yrs ago)... you guessed it, no change!

Since I've purchases my ''10 CC Sport I've changed the oil twice. I've got almost 9K on it now. The first time was about 1700 miles (was getting ready to take a road trip, and wanted fresh oil for the 3K round trip), and the second time was a little after 5K. During that time I never got my change oil message. About 300 miles after I changed the oil it came on.... I reset and ignored it after checking to make sure the levels were fine and giving it a visual inspection...

I use Mobil 1 5W20 synthetic ('cause it's cheap at Wally World) and a Mobil 1 filter every 5K. I check the oil at least weekly and every time I get gas, never had any troubles..

just my take

Exco
Mine is not duty based, I have a 2010 1500 laramie. It chimes in every 2500 miles, I usually reset it and I change my oil about evry 5000 miles. I use royal purple, I'm sure I could go much longer than 5000. because the at 5000 the oil still has some clarity to it, it isn't all black. I still change every 5000 because I want to avoid gunt build up over the life of my truck.

I beleive Dodge made it 2500 miles instead of a 3000 to give a 500 mile buffer to insure drivers change before 3000..

I wonder how much influence $$ oil companies have on the car and truck manufacturers recomendation of how often we change our oil.

example: If we change our oil every 3000 miles instead of every 6000, then they sell more oil.

Wow that was interesting. I'm glad I've been using Royal Purple. It may be expensive, but it is worth its weight in gold when it comes to protecting my engine.

No, this would be my second oil change. My issue is I only put on 5K miles per year, lots of short trips.

Ok, got my operators manual out and it says do not exceed 6K miles or 6 months on oil change. So with me putting 5K miles per year on, guess I have to change oil every 6 months at 2500 miles to keep warranty intact. (Sorry, seems I and others have hijacked this thread on syn vs dino oil.)

Can be explained by the maximum duration of oil in the engine, not to exceed six months....... or, twice a year....
