Default Ordered MyGig RBZ and Lockpick CHR550 Today

Well I finally pulled the trigger and ordered a MyGig RBZ and Lockpick CHR550 today. The CHR550 came with a BARCAM 221 color nightvision camera.

I had ordered a Jensen unit with NAV, Bluetooth, iPod etc. a few months ago, but I decided I didn't want the hassle of all the extra parts that were going to be required for the install. That went up on eBay a few days ago. It seems like a nice unit if anyone is interested.

I'll post back when I get the new unit installed.

I have the CHR550 as well, in my opinion its ALOT better than the previous lockipicks, plus you have the ability to add like 5 different cameras, and like 2 seperate aux devices. Plus the integrated ipod controls. All in all I'm very satisfied with the new lockpick and haven't had any problems. Your gonna love it!

I got the RBZ today and installed it. It took about 15 minutes. Pretty easy. I'm quite pleased with it. After I've had it in for a few days and know that there are no problems, I'll install the CHR550.

Next items on the wish list are uConnect for the bluetooth and audio controls for the steering wheel. Does anyone know what's involved with installing steering wheel controls? I have the controls for the EVIC now.

Where did you buy it from? Was it a package deal?

I got it off eBay as a package. Search for 170605421989 on eBay.

So I got the Lockpick CHR550 installed today. I can't say that I'm thrilled with the results. Here is how it went...

The plugs into the radio are a very tight fit. I had to push very hard to get them in. I pulled the unit out once during the install and had to use a little force with a screwdriver to pry them out.

The plug that connects into the wiring harness did not line up 100% with the pins in the wiring harness plug. It prevented me from fully inserting the plug. This took several tries and bending back slightly bent pins to get it to finally work.

Once I had everything connected it behaved as was explained in the manual. It took about 30 seconds to populate the menus under "TV" on the radio.

This is where things went downhill for me. One of the main reason I bought the CHR550 was for the full iPod integration. As far as I can tell the ONLY way to get full iPod integration is if you have steering wheel radio controls which I don't. I can play movies and music from my iPod touch, but I have to control them from the iPod and switch between manual and iPod out modes on the CHR550. I have not been able to get any video out of my iPod Classic 5th generation which I what I wanted to leave in the truck. I can play music from the iPod Classic, but again, I can ONLY control it from the iPod since I don't have steering wheel controls. And you don't get any on screen display since it's in manual mode.

I've gone back and read Coastal Etechs website and I can't find anything that says it will only give you full iPod integration if you have steering wheel controls.

I sent an email to Costal Etech to see if I am missing something, but I don't think I am.

Coastal Electronics just confirmed that if you don't have steering wheel radio controls you don't get full iPod integration.

Just ordered my chr550 a couple days ago, any more issues or install tips you know of will definetely help, i only have a classic ipod and dont plan on buying a newer version anytime soon, i will be upgrading the audio video, adding some screens and subwoofer, maybe upgrading door speakers.
