2013 Ram rumors, pics and tech specs
Lets hear them. Based on all reports the 8 speed tranny is going to make an appearance in the 4.7 or 5.7 in the 1500s or maybe both and is rumored to give another 5%, or about 1 MPG. New grill, bumper and likely headlights as well as interior items that I can not find any detail on. Google will pull a few typical spy shots showing the changes. To me it appears they achived a bigger grill by "lowering it into the bumper" rather than going up, which IMHO is a good thing. Higher=harder to work on, plus it should allow for the same hood (I really want the sport hood on my next truck).
I am trying to stay out of the show room to avoid a 2012 order. But at the same time I hate waiting for something new without confirmation and of course being the first to buy "new" is not always a good thing, I am not 100% sure I want the first generation of an 8-speed tranny in a truck.
One other item I learned from someone in the industry, the test trucks have over 400HP. Of course I see no mention of this on the net, but I do have a high level of trust from this source.

I also thought it was mentioned that it would get the 8.4 inch touch screen radio/climate control system as an option. That would be all it would take for me to trade. The 8 speed trans would be the icing on top.
I walked into the dealer on the way home. Another interior feature appears to be the keyless go/keyless start and as mentioned above the bigger radio, which would mean a redesign of the center console I would have to think.

For the bigger radio and screen are you talking about the same one that's on the caravan or journey I believe, i saw a commercial on tv and it had a really cool screen with the climate controls on it and what not. That would be nice in a Ram, don't understand why it's not in there yet espcecially if the journey has it.
Supposedly this technology is already in one of the jeeps. Its always sensing for the key in your pocket and unlocks when you get within 10 ft or something. Then its just push button start. But if I remember right its on a jeep or something. It seems that the rams always get the latest option a year later...
Geesh. Why mess with the Grille. I like the present grille. By the looks of that spy shot the new grille is gonna be obnoxious. And only 1 mpg better than present? With all those extra gears?
I can't wait to see the new MPG threads after that comes out.

I stopped by the dealer today tosee whats the latest... he tried to get me in on the truck month deals.
I cant decide if i want to do something in the next few weeks or wait till the 13s with the new grille, tranny and whatever else comes along.
They have thousands off right now... which would offset the savings i would get from the 8 speed tranny increase in mileage.
Ive heard airbags, grille, 8 speed tranny and a bigger screen as upgrades.... I wonder if its worth the wait...
A limited laramie would be much better on this 2000 road trip im taking in 2 days than this challenger
btw, I have the keyless start button on my challenger... LOVE IT

Below is what I've read from another source. Doesn't report anything on the 5.7 Hemi, but one would have to assume RAM would only move forward with the 8 speed behind both engines. Fuel consumption is supposedly reduced around 12%; don't know if that is with a V-6, V-8 or both.
"Next year's new Ram 1500 will get the new Pentastar V-6 and an eight-speed transmission, and it will no doubt deliver vastly improved fuel economy compared with this year's model.
Automotive News reports that Chrysler filed a voluntary report with the Securities and Exchange Commision (it's voluntary because Chrysler is a privately held company) that discloses some of the coming changes to the next-generation Ram 1500.
The new eight-speed transmission "reduces fuel consumption by up to 12 percent over our current five-speed transmissions" such as the one in the current Ram, the filing says.
The report also says that this year Chrysler "will add the Ram pickup to the list of our vehicles that offer the Pentastar V-6." Ram currently offers a 3.7-liter V-6 that makes 215 horsepower. The new 3.6-liter Pentastar delivers 290 hp and 260 pounds-feet of torque in the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The report also revealed Chrysler's use of new lightweight axles.
Automotive News says Chrysler has been tight-lipped about details of the upcoming Ram, so these revelations in a corporate filing seemed to surprise a company spokesman, who declined to comment."
