Whats with the extra key on the key fob?

The key fob has a built in key for emergencies/lock the bed... why does it have yet another key come with the truck? they are identical?

I've been carrying around that extra set of keys for months and I keep planning on taking it off but thinking "wait theres got to be a reason".

Any takers?

does it look like a regular key? my 2009 only came with the two funny plastic keys with the emergency key inside of them.

maybe its a key to use for the tailgate? (my early build 09 didnt come with tailgate lock)

The on in the fob is for opening the door or gate and also acts ss a valet.

The regular keys you also got with the trick are just another copy that does the same thing. Only thing I can think of is to avoid the hundreds of calls from "uneducated" owners asking where the key is to open the door and gate, not knowing of the key inside the fob.

CarGuyOhio- Your probably right! haha.

So the jury decided there is no reason for it? lol... AKA... I'm irrationally carrying around two keys for the tailgate?

So in otherwords there is no reason and it makes no sense, so I should just take it and put it away for some day when I'll never need it?

Seriously, I've never heard of a car coming with 4 keys, 2 built in to the fob and 2 without. I'd rather they wasted that extra dollar it cost to make those keys and give me chromed backup sensors or something! haha.

I use it to lock my tail gate. Getting that key out of the fob is a pain anywho.
