Default Opinion Guys with Mufflex

I have a 2009 and I want it a little louder but like the stock look so I was looking at a Mufflex 18 but I am worried that the truck is 3 years old next month and has 55K Miles on it so doubt that I can get the exhaust apart but maybe. The other option is that I called a local speed shop and they said they could install a 18" Magnaflo and for $205 but would be using Aluminized Steel. So can I get some feed back and opinions from guys. Anyone with an 18 how much difference did you notice?

Thanks

I had it to start with. Its a big difference and I ended up ditching it because of the drone. If you don't want it much louder than stock then I would suggest you go the the magnaflow 24" muffler. And definitely get stainless pipes and not aluminized.

I run 14" magnaflow and love it! Sure there is a drone, but with a little music from the stereo its fine..

Sounds nice at start up, and WOT!

I'm about to pull the trigger on the same setup. Everyone with the 14 and 18 says there is a "drone". But what kind of drone is it? Can you hear it above normal conversation level? Does it force you to turn up the music just to deal with the ride? I'm leaning towards the 18 myself.

I have the Mufflex 24 and wish I had just went with the Magnaflow setup. The Muffler sounds exactly as I want it to, it is not to loud and you hear it when you want to hear it. At highway speed you can barely hear it but when taking off from a light it sounds great! Something else you have to think about is if you tow. If you do the exhaust will bounce off of the trailer and IT will be louder in the cab. When I tow the camper the wife complains about the drone in the cab but she never complians about it any other time. If you want sound but want to keep it tolerable I would go with the 24". As for the reason I said I should have gone with the Magnaflow is beacuse I ended up bringing the installed kit to the muffler shop and having it welded because I couldn't get the pipes sealed up. I ended up spendin another $125 for the re-install and then the $200 for the kit. The guy at the shop said he could have sold me the same kit in a magnaflow and it would have cost me $200 installed. As for Quality I have had it on the truck for two years now and I live in NH, salt country, and it is holding up well.

Mufflex are crap. You'll never get it tight enough that it won't have an exhaust leak. Mufflex are just normal mufflers with extra bit welded on to bolt the muffler in place, but marked up 200%. And that's just the product, don't even get me started on their customer service or how it took over 2 months after the order for them to get me my muffler.

Save yourself headache and money and just take it to a local muffler shop to get a Magnaflow or Flowmaster welded on.

Disagree. I put one on my 09 and now on my 12. Mine does not leak. Challenge anyone to lay under my truck and put their hands around the seams and feel air coming out. Of course I used an air impact at about 120 psi, you will never get it tight with hand tools, even a large torque, not going to happen. Clamp position is also important.

The fact I used it again tells you my thoughts on the product.

The fact you have 55K miles I would probably let a shop do it or get an entire cat back system.

As for which model, our opinions meet spit. Sound levels are 100% subjective. For the people who think a 14 is loud you should hear my SRT. Hit youtube and listen to videos, there are many. Also keep in mind the muffler will get a little louder as it breaks in.

I pulled the trigger on the 18 last night. Main reason being that I could install it myself without having to rely on a muffler shop and then get the truck back and have the exhaust uneven in the bumper cut outs. Generally I trust no one or their quality of work. Plus if I dont like it I can rip it off and sell it right quick.

Had the 24" Mufflex on my 09. I liked the sound, no issues with sealing once I cut 2 extra slots for the clamp to crush. Before that, it would not tighten even with the proper torque same as a lot of other guys. And that was with the clamp positioned as far out on the pipe as you could go leading to the most crush. Maybe they changed something since way back then??

The only thing I didn't like was the so called stainless steel they used for the adapter pipes rusted all to crap. I wanted to remove the muffler when I sold the truck. The pipes were rusted badly onto the old pipes, nuts on the clamps could not even be loosened due to the very heavy rust. They pretty much crumbled. Worst quality stainless I have ever seen. The factory 409 stainless wasn't rusted anything like the Mufflex adapter pipes. The Magnaflow muffler itself was stained but not rusted as it is 304 quality stainless.

I installed the 18" on sunday. My truck has 20k miles on it and is only about 2 years old, if that. The stock muffler and fittings were beyond rusted. I had air tools and it took a 45 mins to get the stocker off. Reinstalling the mufflex went quick and easy. I loose fitted everything to line up the exhaust tips. Once it was all good I threw the impact on all the fittings and squished it all down nicely.

Initial start up......not going to lie, I was dissapointed. Well 2 days later and its gotten a bit deeper at start up but not louder. Driving around you really notice it with the windows open. It is much louder at intersections and going up hills slowly. Highway speeds in MDS do drone a bit but if you close the windows its nearly stock.

I love it so far, but if you are looking for a mild rumble and little change at highway speeds, then get the 24. Also, most exhaust shops carry this muffler series and will weld it in for around $180-$225. Considering I pumped my stock muffler with 7.62X39....I may as well have had it welded in.
