Talking Will Flowmaster Muffler Hurt my Performance

So Im still in the Deciding phase of which muffler swap I want. Just Muffler swap only. After listening to hundreds of youtube videos I really love the sound of the Flowmaster Super 40. Then everyone tells me Magnaflow has better performance. I called Flowmaster and they said the would only suggest the Flowmaster 50 HD. SO my question is if I do go with the Flowmaster Super 40 will I lose Performance from stock, or just not gain as much that I could from Magnaflow. IMO the Magnaflow isnt loud at all, and I relly dont like the sound, Even with the 14". I think The Flow Super 40 sounds awesome. But If I am gonna lose performance....from stock... I dont want it. !! Thanks Chris

your not going to notice any performance gains with just swapping your muffler...

go with what you want...if you want blowmaster go ahead...they rust out quickly..the quality isn't there...I personally run magnaflow...it's loud on startup...quiets out on idle..then when I romp on it you know it's there. I had a magnaflow direct swap 24" and it was good for me...then i swapped to a 22" which comes with the stainless cat back system.

The 50 HD is designed for the Hemi. Think thats what I'd run. Understand those video clips at least to me sound nothing like they really do. Plus are you going to run the resonators or not? On those sound videos some have reasonators some don't.

I put a 50HD on my truck less than a month after taking delivery off the showroom floor and within about 3 years it rusted to crap. Yeah I bought into the "Made for Hemi" crap too. It looked fine on the bottom but showed some bad rust on the top of the sides. When I finally cut it off - the top looked like swiss cheese! I'm guessing condensation formed along the top of the inside and it rusted right through to the top. It sounded good except had an annoying drone from about 1600-2200 rpms which meant highway cruising pretty much sucked.

They are a chambered muffler and as such don't flow too well, although no worse than the stock setup.

I've since gone to a Cherry Bomb Extreme that has been on for about four years and only shows minor signs of surface rust. It's actually a little quieter than the 50HD was at idle but a LOT deeper and louder when giving it some gas. More importantly, there is NO drone anywhere in the RPM band.

We are finding in 3rd Gen that a LOT of guys buy Flowmaster, which is understandable as they do more advertising than about all the other muffler manufacturers combined. But most guys go to another brand when replacing them.

I have a flow rate (CFM) comparison of a good many popular mufflers in the 3rd Gen FAQ section:

Spend a little more and get the stainless version of the 40 series flowmaster. Sounds better the the magnaflow, had both. Had mine on now for 2 years and no rust at all
