Default Mufflex Update

Its been about 3 weeks since I installed my mufflex 18" system. I was super happy with it when I first installed it but now I'm getting more and more angry with it.

Install was easy enough. The old bolts gave with plenty of PB blaster and an air gun. Install was a breeze, eveything seems to line up.

Now I've got a quality exhaust leak on the inlet (large diameter) side and a leak on one of the outlet sides. I checked everything for tightness, nice and snug. Dont really know what to do other than rip it off and coat everything with liqued gasket OR do the crummy thing and take it to a shop and have it welded in.

Just an FYI folks, save yourself the monry and buy the muffler from a shopp or have them weld it in.

No, just remove it and use a jig saw to cut a slit on each inlet/exit opposite of the one they did. It only needs to be the width of 2 jig saw blades. The bi-metal blades will cut it like better. Then reinstall with the clamps flush with the ends. You will not need to crank the clamps as hard at all.

I had the same issue as this and did the above 60k miles ago and no leaks. Buying just a muffler and some stainless steel tubing plus driving to an exhaust shop, waiting and paying for labor doesn't seem like a good idea but hey, it's your truck and time. Not too many exhaust shops have stainless tubing. I agree though they should cut the slits better though.

Good luck

why dont they put the slits in?? it seems like this has been an issue for many folks for quite a while...

magnaflow muffler-$75new shipped
local exhaust shop bending and fitting a few pipes total labor/material $150

$50 cheaper, no leaks, and didnt have to lay on my back in the driveway and then doing it again to fix leaks. All i had to do was stand around and BS to the guys working on the truck.
