Default Converting 20" to 17" Wheels??

Here's the issue. Last year I bought a brand new 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 Outdoorsman that came off the lot with stock 20" wheels and the worthless stock Goodyear Wranglers. We have a lot of caliche roads all around my hunting lease in the Texas Panhandle. When the county grades the roads they expose the buried sharp rocks and they absolutely tear the Goodyears to shreds, which I am positive that tire is not rated for that kind of terrain. Anyhow, after two unrepairable blowouts in a month I want to buy 17" wheels and get a real set of tires with some dadgum sidewall to them to match. My question is will a 17" wheel, say about 8-8.5" width, obviously with the same lug pattern & lug dimensions, mount to the existing hub that the 20'' wheels are currently sitting on? Does this model have oversized calipers and will that be an issue when trying to mount the 17" wheels? I have seen other 2011 Outdoorsman with stock 17's so logic would tell me they should fit just fine. But my logic has failed me in the past and I am content in accepting that fact, lol. I apologize up front for my ignorance and would greatly appreciate any input. Thanks in advance!

P.S. I'm brand new to the forum and am not positive that I have posted this thread in the correct forum. Please correct me if I need to post these kind of questions somewhere else. Thanks

You should easily be able to swap on 17's. I have done it once with my truck.

Any 17's from a 02 up will fit. I ran '08 17's on my truck for a while.

Factory 17" takeoffs would be the easiest - real aluminum non clad rims. With aftermarket 17's you'll want to make sure that you can do a fit test to make sure they clear the brakes. I've got the factory 17's and also prefer them over the 20's for a number of reasons.
