Default A question to ponder on...

Does anyone think we will ever see a manual transmission in a half ton truck ever again?

I do not know if you can even get them or not, but it seems as though in a half ton they are rare if they are even available.

I just wish it were more common...not the push button shift.

Doubt it. Not worth producing for the maybe 1% of people who actually want a stick in a truck.

Probably not and I think the reason has to do with electronic transmission controls. Easier to program an automatic.
My last truck was a 1997 F150. I was going to order it with a 5 speed, but didn't because I would "lose" the center seating position beside the driver.
Wouldn't matter now that our daughter has grown up and drives her own car.

The automatic transmissions today are built with perfection now. From what I remember the only reason people ran manuals is because you could get faster track times, and keep your motor in its proper RPMS. Now the trannies shift so clean its very hard for a manual to shift faster then that. AND now with electronic trannies and the fact that we can limit our gears, takes that need away yet again from the manuals.

I know a guy who has an SRT, he loves his manual transmission. He didn;t buy it with one to haul or race tho. He bought it because of the feel, however some times he wish he never did. The capabilities of transmission tuning on today's transmissions outway that of "the feel"

I miss the standard in my old Jetta. Just the feeling of having total control over your car was awesome. It wasn't just put it in drive and go...Those were the good days, but I would never give up my truck to own it again. More pros then cons! Sacrifice is necessary...

My 2009 Ram 1500 replaces my 2001 Pathfinder that had a 5-spd manual transmission. I hate to give up the manual transmission, but if I do feel like rowing my own gears, my other car is a Challenger SRT8 with a 6-spd manual.

With the HP that most vehicles have today combined with the improved auto trans we have there is only slight improvement with a stick. My last vehicle with a manual was an 01 Neon with a 5 speed. When I test drove it I also tried one with the 4 speed auto and the difference was HUGE. That car with the auto was a dog but the 5 spd manual really woke it up. Those days are mostly past though, improved equipment combined with bum knees means automatic from here on out for me. It's nice to remember the performance cars with a stick shift though.
