Default Dodge Ram 1500 w/8 spd trans Question

Team,

For those with the 8 spd trans with the 5.7 Hemi, what do you think of this combo? What sort of gas mileage are you seeing? Also, has anyone had any issues with this?

Thanks,

Dave

From everything I have read online, I don't think the Hemi/ZF 8 Torque flight combo is available in the U.S. yet. Seems like I read on another forum that they are available in Canada, but only the V6 Rams w/ZF 8 tranny are out on the market in my neck of the woods right now. I went on the RAM web site and the ZF 8 is not available with the Hemi when you try to build a 2013. I hope they hurry up and start selling them soon; I am dying to see some performance reviews and track tests. They might just convince me to trade in my 2009, maybe!

They are selling them in the states (no regular cab option just yet). My father drives one with the 5.7/8-speed combo. The big difference I noticed is the power band, there's a TON of torque down low. It takes some getting used to, but it's nice. It shifts a lot smoother than my 6-speed too; you can hardly even tell it's shifting. Gas mileage is slightly better (about 1-2 more MPG). Although, I can't imagine what an 8-speed would cost to fix if anything ever went wrong.

I could order one set-up with the Hemi/8spd option, but ended up purchasing a 2013 Ram 1500 Hemi with a 6 spd with the Outdoorsman package that was on the lot. It is a nice truck.
