Nearly 6000lb truck - if you are worried about fuel economy then I'd consider a car. Fuel economy is always dependent on where and how you drive, so one guys 22MPG is another's 14 on the same road.

When I bought my 09 sport the sticker said 26 mpg, the best i have seen is 14 mpg, the reason dodge made a truck with a 8 speed tranny and 6 cylinder was to improve fuel economy. The window sticker advertises 36 mpg, BS. I want to know if real world economy is anywhere near that or do I have to wait until Toyota builds a truck with decent fuel economy. Unfortunately i havent found a car that occassionally pulls a 8000lb boat or helps friends move.

You do realize that those MPG numbers are for imperial gallons when you are in Canada - right? In any case, if all you are seeing is 14 imperial MPG (11.6 US MPG) then there is something wrong with that truck - or you drive like an idiot. I see as high as 20 US MPG for pure highway driving and around 15 US MPG for mixed driving.

Or you can wait for the new 1500 to come out in 2014 with the turbo diesel.
Motortrend magazine did a write-up on it, they`re saying 30ish+ mpg, and gobs of torque from the 3.0 V6 (???)

Here`s the motortrend internet write up: Of course this will meen Ram Trucks will win "Truck of the year" again, in 2014.

Neat idea, but I'm expecting a 10K premium to get that engine - if they actually make it this time

I dont know oldjeep, i`m thinkin it might be near or close to the same increase on price as other diesel engine upgrades. If they price its "diesel option" right out of realistic and fair market sale value, they`ll be shootin themselves right in the foot so to speak, and sales will suffer horribly. (most will go big or go home anyway) So i`m pretty sure that they may think about that long before they release it. Another thing comes to mind, price of maint AND service. That alone, keeps people buying the HEMI`s over a diesel in my own opinion. I wanted a 2500 diesel, but when it came down to the end price, on top of maint and service work, the HEMI was MUCH MUCH tastier to me. I dont even NEED a truck really, i just like driving them. I dont haul or tow anything, so the diesel is no gain to me, just a useless money pit.

Costs you $8500 to get one in a 2500 (engine and required trans) and the option cost for the little diesels in Grand Cherokees has always been near 10K when you consider that you couldn't get them in anything but a decked out truck.

We'll see when it happens, but for the option price and the premium you pay for diesel fuel - I don't see a lot of value in a 1500 with a little diesel. I think they'll sell a ton of them though so that the tuner guys who already don't need a truck can "roll coal"

Tuner guys can "roll coal" = exactly my thoughts too...!!!!
I just dont think this new 1500 with a diesel is going to be a hot seller for dodge.
Mainly due to the high price of diesel (like you said) and the price of the truck with the diesel upgrade.
They only did this to spare with ford... a turbo V6 with MUCH better MPG, more torque. And win truck of the year again.

Oh yeah, and lets not forget about the added expense of UREA fluids, and added tank & weight for the 1500 diesel trucks.
For those that dont know, i tossed a link in here that will shed some light on what urea is. (actually, its just ****...lol lol lol)
