Default 2014 Ram 6.4 HEMI REVEALED

Published on Jul 1, 2013

( http://www.TFLcar.com ) There's big news for fans of Ram heavy Duty Trucks. The 2014 Ram heavy duty pickups will not only get a new 6.4L HEMI engine option priced at $1,495 over a similarly equipped truck with the 5.7-liter V8, but they'll also get coils springs and air suspension. The new 6.4L engine produces 410 horsepower & 429 lb-ft of torque, and it is paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. It is also the first gas powerplant from Ram that is available in the dually Ram 3500. Roman & Nathan were in Michigan recently when Ram announced the news and had both the new engine and the new truck on hand. Check it out as we get the scoop up close and personal at the debut of the new 2014 Ram 2500 Longhorn heavy duty pickup.

mmm....I was honestly expecting a little bit more out of the 6.4...The numbers on the challenger are much better then that of this motor in the ram...In all reality I don't really think that it gains TOO much over the 5.7. Yes 30hp here and there, generated at a lower RPM, its all great but again I was really expecting more.

Also I am pretty sure that I heard EGR mentioned in that clip? Sad are the days where a gasoline engine needs an EGR to meet emissions regulations. There is a reason us diesel guys either pull them off or deactivate them. The amount of heat those things generate are quite incredible. When he said this "cool" EGR system, it was in no way of temperature. If it were me I would stay far clear of this motor just for that simple reason.

I said this in another post too, coils on a heavy duty vehicle still have me sketching out a little...I was considering my next trade in on being a 2014 when they came out, but now if the coils are being put in I am just not sure. The technology could finally be there, who knows. What I do know is if I am pulling around my genie lift (weighing in around 26k lbs) I am not sure I want that all on coils.
NOW having said that, the air ride suspension COULD be a good thing. I have not heard much on them for the 1500s yet, but I guess they are the big test. Here in the north, big rigs blow bags all time cause of the cold. If RAM got them figured out to last a while, even in the cold, that could be a very good thing to have.

I am trying not to make it look like I am hater of this, but I think there are more suitable places to put money. With the capabilities of the 1500s now, towing has become much better to do. 18000lb max capacity??? With the new 3L Ecodiesel just around the corner on the 13 1500s, thats where I would be spending my cash. Unless your hauling major loads a 1500 should be just about enough to do it now a days. If you are looking for power, hopefully that ecodiesel will cut it. I understand some people like to have a 2500 just for precautions, or payload. But lets face it, just to even get into a BASE 2500 is a lot of money. If you can do that, then a real cummins is not too far around the corner.

I do realize that lots of guys want that "little bit" more power without the hassle of a diesel, this is a great option for that. I guess in my eyes it just doesn't seem worth it to me...

I think instead of increasing the bore, they should give it some stroke. At least that would give a little more down low umph, which the Hemi, right now, isn't known for.

They needed to get the torque lower in the RPM range for towing and hauling. I believe the 392 in my car peaks around 4200, no good for a HD truck. To make this happen they obviously lost some power.

They put the MDS in this thing? That was stupid as well as worthless.

From what I get in the vid the torque hits the max at around 4700rpm?
