Default New Ram 1500 owner

Hey everyone,
I just picked up a 2012 Ram 1500 QC 4x4 5.7 with 18k miles.
I had a 2003 Dakota QC 4.7 auto for about 2 years and traded it for the Ram.
So far I love the Ram and have a couple of questions.
I didn't get an owners manual.
Mine has the key fob with the key inside the plastic fob case and the weird way the fob plugs into the ignition. My question is can you use a key in the ignition? Or does it have to be the fob?
2) Do all Dodge engines tick? My 4.7 in my Dakota was slightly louder but the tick in the 5.7 is still there.
3) What oil is recommended? Synthetic? Blend? Weight?
Here's a couple of pics..
Any info is appreciated..thanks

Congratulations and welcome to the forum. For owner information, go here and scroll down below to the bottom half of the page and look under "My Vehicle"

As far as the tick goes, people refer to it as the hemi tick but as you read through this forum, you'll see that some attribute it to certain oil filters, can be broken manifold blots, wrong oil. I use synthetic 5-20 but regular oil 5-20 will work fine. Got to use the 5-20 or the MDS may not work.

The key in the fob is for the tailgate and the doors only.

Thanks for the info and the quick reply.
Some people said the same thing about the 4.7. Some filters or oil would help with the tick. I tried a lot of stuff including replacing the lifters, timing chains and guides and tensioners and it never made any difference.
One other thing.
I have the 17's and have found a guy who will trade for the 20's. Can the dealer fix the speedometer if I do that?

Wheel size is irrelevant. Tire diameter is what matters. I run 20" in summer and 17" in winter. Too answer your question though, yes, the dealer can adjust it, to a point.

Does anyone know the tire diameter of the stock 20 inch tires? Or the diameter of the stock 17s? It would be nice if they are the same height.

Stock 20 in at 275/60/20 is 32.99 inches and the stocks 17in at 265/70/17 is 31.6 inches

Thanks for the tire info. If there is an inch difference my truck won't fit in the garage lol.
I had to modify the opener arm to get the clearance to get it in the garage with the 17's.

one inch difference in tire height means 1/2 inch increase in truck height

If it a half inch I might be able to make it work.
The fit is very tight in my garage. The pic doesn't show the distance to the opener arm but it is about an inch.
And my Boxer was disappointed because we weren't going for a ride that day..lol
Thanks for all the info.

Well, that didn't last long.....
I am an over the road truck driver and just got notified that my nice shiny pickup truck was involved in a major hail storm while sitting at my home terminal.
I don't have any pics yet but I have been told that the windshield has been smashed out and there are softball size dents in the hood and roof and holes in the tonneau cover.
Ever feel like you just can't win?.
