Hemi 8 Spd 4x4 MPG
I know there is probably a thousand of these threads out there, but I thought I would state that MPG I am getting after 1400 miles on my new truck.
The Truck:
2014 Ram 1500 Quad Cab Big Horn 4x4 8 speed hemi with 3.21 rear end
The Driving:
I drive 50 miles a day with 25 of those miles doing about 60-65MPH (highway), 15 miles doing about 50-55MPH up and down hills (country roads), and 10 of those miles doing stop and go driving at about 30-40MPH.
The MPG:
I average about 450 miles to a tank of gas (26 gal. tank).
1st Fill Up after initial fill up- 18.2 MPG
2nd Fill up after initial fill up- 19.2 MPG
3rd Fill UP after initial fill up- 18.2 MPG
So, over the 3 fill ups I have averaged about 18.5 MPG
NOTE: ALL THE MPG VALUES ARE HAND CALCULATED BY TAKING THE MILES DRIVEN AND DIVIDING BY THE NUMBER OF GALONS TO FILL UP THE GAS TANK.
Just thought I would share because my previous vehicle was a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab hemi with a 3.92 rear and 4x4 and I never got more than 14.2 MPG averaging about 13.7 MPG. I am very impressed with the new truck and think this is valuable information to share.

been lots of improvements made to the HEMI since 07. Thats fantastic mileage, especially for a 390 h.p. engine in a 4 wheel drive. Thats a high speed rear end, definately not made for towing, a great mileage gear, especially highway.
Yep, that's why they make different ratio ring & pinions. Tailor 'em to your needs. On my 3rd gen, I was concerned with performance with 35" tires, hence the move to 4.56s. I had to be concerned with occasional towing of about 8000 lbs. with those 35s. For a daily driver, no or very light towing/hauling, nothing wrong with 3.21s, especially with the 8 speed.
On my current 4th gen CTD, I still tow that same 8000 lbs a half dozen times a year, but with a 17,000 lb. capacity, I can easily get away with my 3.42s and benefit some extra MPGs. Now if I pulled a fifth wheel with any regularity, I'd be thinking 4.10s but I don't...

The 3.21s are plenty if you live in the flat lands. My boat is around 5K and we never have any issues towing it around, transmission doesn't hunt even when not in tow mode. If I lived where it wasn't flat then it would be worth the mileage tradeoff to get the 3.55's.
18.5 average is great for somewhat mixed driving. I can get 20 in pure highway (75 is the sweet spot), but my mixed mileage is more like 14-15
