Default 2015 ram 2500 6.4 hemi or cummins

Trading in 2008 ram 5.7 hemi. Trying to decide on 6.4 or cummins. Don't like the extra cost of cummins and seems like a lot of potential for costly problems down the road. Towing will be 6-7 times a year around 8000lbs. Don't want to be under powered but don't want to get destroyed on gas mileage. Was thinking of 6.4 hemi with 4:10 ratio. Anyone have experience with this setup and gas mileage etc. I don't mind spending the extra if it would be worth the cummins in the long one but I don't like problems either

You should do just fine with the Hemi and 4:10 although I think the new 2500 gassers come with a motor bigger than a 5.7. I think its also a 6.4.

Gzapper,

An excellent choice in truck! Both engines are tremendous and are built to pull. The Cummins diesel will provide additional towing capacity. The Cummins does have the option of either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission, while the 6.4 liter Hemi is mated to a 6-speed automatic.

Here is a link indicating the towing capacity of each option: http://www.ramtruck.ca/en_dir/pdf/20...500_Towing.pdf

Hell, I don't even see why you need a 2500. I definitely would not bother with the Cummins unless you have big towing plans in your future.

I have "E" rated tires as well. You can usually go up to 80 psi on these tires but that is only for towing. when I don't tow heavy loads I keep mine at 50 psi. I actually go to 70 psi when I tow the camper which is 8,000 lbs dry.
