trying to figure out which way to go.

My 2004 Dakota V8 is gone. It had the Magnam V8. Good power, bad mileage.
Pulled a few boats and had no problem.

I would like to save money on gas. I don't see gas dropping anytime soon again.

The V6 is more power and better mileage.


The V8 is significantly more power and less mileage. Maybe more power than I will ever need.


Give me any input about it.

Also, anyone had issues with each. Let me know.

 

Go big or go home. IMO, v6's don't belong in a full size truck. I'd never own one. I personally do t think real world mileage will be that different. The V6 will have to work harder. Especially if pulling or hauling.

 

That's a lot like asking 'boxers or briefs?' It's a pretty personal choice. If you just need a p/u to run around in, the occasional light tow, nothing wrong with the six. Resale will be higher with a hemi but so will the purchase price.

 

The new V6 has more power than the old 4.7 V8 I believe. The V6 should have plenty enough unless you are pulling really heavy loads or maxing out the weight limit. And the V6 will def. be better on gas unlike the old V6 dodge used. Now the old V6 should have never been used in a full size Ram IMO. I have a 2011 with the hemi and it is converted to run cng or gas so I run cng 95% of the time at around $1.50 a gal. I have 123k+ and converted when truck was brand new so it's paying for the truck with the difference in gas vs cng prices. About 50k miles were run on .99 a gal cng. A little power loss and I get about 1/2-1 mpg less on cng. Cost 10 K for the conversion and worth every penny IMO but I do a lot of driving.

 

Well, I went big. V8.

I looked at a Silverado and a Ram today. Both were nice, both had about the same price.

The Silverado had the movable pedals, step bumper, slow dropping tailgate.

But the ride and looks of the Ram sealed the deal. It just felt bigger, and handled the bumps better. I ran over the same roads I do every day just to see the difference.

I like the locking tailgate. But will have to get used to the dial shifter. Almost the the 61 Chrysler the neighbor had.

Here is what I'm saying, I have a V8 Hemi and tow a travel trailer. I don't use this truck for commuting. If I didn't tow the trailer and ran around with an empty box, I would have a V6 gasser.

In the next couple months I will be turning over the high mileage hemi truck to my son. My son will be driving a V8 lifted truck around with an empty box in the back.

My next purchase will be the V6 3.0 EcoD. for running around and towing.

Travel Trailer is only 4,700 lbs. with just me, the wife and an empty truck bed.

Good looking truck I almost got that same truck but got black at the last min. I dint know about the chrome fender trim. Since you have the chrome body molding. But that's me and I do like chrome.
