Unhappy Need Opinions

I took my truck down a trail last weekend and now it's sitting in the shop. Truck doesn't even have 6000 miles on it yet and it was the first time I put it in 4 wheel drive. Keep in mind that I have a 6" BDS lift with 37's so it's sitting off the ground a little bit. A part of the trail had some water on it and I drove through it. The water never exceeded 10 inches the whole time I drove through it so it was never submerged. I drove through the water for about 75 yards and once I came out my power steering went out. Shortly after that service transmission came on along with every other possible message. I parked it for the night while we camped planning to take it straight to the dealer the next morning. Well sure enough the next day the truck wouldn't even start. I tried unplugging the battery to possibly reset it but nothing would work. It was at the point where I plugged the battery up and every light in the dash was on along with the wipers going off and the alarm. All this was happening with no key. I ended up getting it towed to the dealership to get it fixed. Here's where the real fun begins. First they tell me all the connectors have water in them and they have to dry them out. They do that and get it started but still showing like 90 codes. Next they tell me my power steering module is full of water and that they have to replace the rack and pinion along with the module. The wonderful part of all this is that they are not covering this under warranty. I am very curious how my truck wasn't even submerged and it is full of water and now I'm paying to fix a brand new truck. I apologize for this long story but I would love some other opinions on this. This is the second vehicle I have bought from dodge in the last year and they have both had issues within the first 2 months of owning them. I feel that I have been sold another lemon and I'm not a happy person right now. So please reply back and let me know what you guys think.

I drove through 10 or so inches of flood waters last year, about this same time, also while camping. Nothing happened.

Note that I was having fun and driving way too fast -- on a dare, from the wife and adult kid who thought it was a hoot (water spraying over the height of the truck). Dumb way to find out if my truck is tight I suppose. Whatever, my truck, my money, life is short and I'm just going to enjoy it.

Again, I've had no problems at all.

Sorry to hear of your troubles.

During the last flood we had here in the Houston area a month ago I drove through waters much deeper than 10". I would like to say not by choice as my wife was stranded.

I had to replace my fog lights, and refasten a wheel well cover as well as dry out the cab.

No other problems, and I have had no other major issues or concerns with two Rams and a Durango.

Hope things get better for you.

You might escalate this to the regional Ram service rep.
