I always thought that bragging rights for your truck came in the form of highest max payload, and towing capacity, how long it lasts, and how well it does off-road.

Screw its 0-60 and 1/4th mile times, who cares? Why do you need to be the fastest pickup? Trucks are horrible for high speed, they cant handle for sh*t (most of the models).

My Dad is a huge Ford guy. We are in the mid size battle tho. He has a ranger and i have a dakota, lol, I pretty much win in every segment, but his is king off road, those little rangers can get anywhere with ease. The 4.0 is great too.

With the state of Chrysler, we don't need to be putting the Viper engine in the Ram right now.

Why would Dodge put the 6.1 in the Ram anyway. The 6.1 makes 425hp, but the 5.7 makes 390 and gets WAY better gas milage. WAY better.

Yes, I said it, 390hp: https://dodgeforum.com/fb.asp?m=1350363

Horsepower sells cars, torque moves 'em. That's one place the Ford SOHC truck motors have always lacked. The 3v 5.4is notably better than the older version, but the 5.7 Hemi, 5.3 Vortec and that nasty little 5.6l DOHC Nissan motor ar far more responsive. To be honest, stock Ford trucks have alwaysfelt sluggish, even with the big 460.

We'll see how this 6.2 does, but I suspect Ford will continue to lag behind Chrysler and GM as they have for many years.

Fords sluggish trucks were mainly do to the poor gear spacing in their 4 speed auto, and the 5.4s relatively low horse power. The 5.4 is a very torquey however, 365 ft-lbs @ ~ 3400 RPM. I think a big reason even the 460 felt sluggish is that it was just crippled by the 70-90s emissions. It just wasn't designed to deal with that kind of restriction. I think it had like 240-250 HP in its final year.

I heard the 6.2 has been temporarily canceled though, do to the high gas prices, well it will at least NOT make the 2010 model year.

well, the 5.4 3v is a gas sucking joke, the v/10 3V is a under powerd joke and the new 6.4 diesel is having teathing issues, Speaking as long time Ford owner, with my first dodge Ram, a 06 2500 Ram, Ford has not had a good truck engine since the old days, 302 351-400 460 ect.
Not understanding how the V10 is an underpowered joke. My family has had 3 V10 vans and pulled anywhere from 20ft cargo trailers to 38ft travel trailers with them. We have never had one engine or even tranny issue with any of them,2ndone we had went to 230k before my brother totaled it.1st (sold around 64k)and 3rd (still have at 100K)ones are lower miles but have run empeccably and pull anything we hook up to'em.Also, they get 14-17 mpg in everyday driving.

You call a 302 a good truck engine? That basically just throws everything you just said out the window.

How is the V10 is under powered? 362 HP @ 4700 RPM, and 457 ft-lbs @ 3250 RPM. That looks like a great truck engine to me!

A 302 in a 90's f-150 is just as fast a a 5.4 in 2006 version, mpg is close, but wait, the 302 and 351 will run a hell of a lot longer than, the 5.4, rear main seals were bad on the old ford V/8, bad I had any were close to the problems with the old ford v/8's in comparison to the 5.4, 2004 was my last ford truck, prior to 2000 I was loyal to ford, after 2002 I gave them a 2nd and 3rd chance.

The v/10 is 2 extra cy packed on to the 5.4, my employer never had great luck wuth them, esp the newer 3 v versions, Ford did solve the spark plug blows outs in the later 5.4 and v/10, but as I mentioned, cam phaser issues plauge ford.

The only advantage the v/10 has over bthe 5.7 is a modest increase in torque, let ford trump thier horn on that.

the 5.4 and v/10 are geared for torque, fords automatics kill any owner mods with tuners, chips, ect, every I can quote h/p and torque numbers all day long, the real world is and owner expierances tell the real truth..

Ford really F&^*%%^ up for a loyal blue oval guy to go to Dodge ...

why not just get a cummins, gets near identical power ratings and gets over 20 mpg when driven nicely.
