Default Driven....

Well this is just my opinion so take it for what its worth. I finally got behind the wheel of the 09 and there are a few things I like and disliked and I got to compare it to the other trucks on the market right now too... So in order this is what I personaly drove and what I thought of each.

08' F150 - This truck has quite a bit of pep to it and very good throttle responce, but the handling flat out sucked, and the ride quality just didn't do anything for me. The interior also wasn't that flattering and not very spaciouse (Im 6'-3" so I need all the leg room I can get).

08' Chevy Silverado (6.0L ?) - This truck was my least favorite of all of them, had no power to it, the interior was alright but everything was like a block, the gear shifter was like a 2" rectangle wtf??? The ride was smooth but handling was still very stiff and slid all over the place when going through the slolom course.

08' Toyota Tundra - Gotta say this is one fun truck to drive, it was the only truck when floored spun the tires, it gets up to speed very quickly too. The interior was nice but a little to crammed for my tastes, and the the handling was similar to the Silverdo in the fact that it slid all over the place when going through the slolom course.

09' Ram (Quad cab w/ new 5.7L HEMI) - A lot of you guys may not like this review... This truck had its ups and downs for me. The styling is there, the interior is beautiful to say the least, its roomy, the center consul actually doesn't seem to be in the way as much as what I thought it would and very very nice all around. The truck handles like a dream, very smooth ride, took the slolom course like it was nothing, I was very very impressed... But... This truck severly lacks ***** though. Of all the trucks it was just a hair faster than the Silverado, but no where close to the ford or tundra in power. I thought that they through the base engine in instead of the new HEMI but when they popped the hood sure enough it was the new one. 390hp my ***... Im hoping that they toned it down for the show and are saving he real thing for the release because with the power it displayed I think a geo metro could beat it off the line.

I will be keeping my truck for a few more years and see what they come out with later on. I think they are on the right track, but they need to find a better way of putting the power they claim to the ground while keeping the handling and styling they have already put into it. Until then I'll just keep upgrading my truck to fit my needs....

I have pics of the event at my house and will post them soon...

I know... I know... but compairing all 4 vehicles they had, yes it was quite a bit faster off the line and made you stick to the seat, not as much as the tundra did, but compared to the ram it got up to speed much faster.... Also keep in mind the top speed of these courses was maybe 50mph at most from the way they had the straight away setup, but the the trucks that accellerated the fastest were the tundra and the ford. Ths dodge and the chevy were the worst of the 4 though when it came to accellerating from a dead stop. Another factor is Im not sure what gearing the trucks had, if the two rams had 3.55 instead of the 3.92's Im sure that could have made a difference as well but the guys running that event didn't know, they were assuming the crew cab had the 3.55 and the quad cab had the 3.92 but they both felt the same and they both fell short of the tundra and ford....

Best overall ride goes to the dodge though just because it is such a smooth and easy handling ride. And Im sure with a few grand in aftermarket parts it will be a very respectable truck, but I have to kinda shrug my shoulders at the stock ones I drove, they weren't as special as what I thought they were going to be....

Something was wrong then. The 08 fords have a 4 Speed automatic, mated to a 300HP engine in a truck that weighs 5600 lbs. One of the biggest complaints on the ford forums is that the 5.4 V8s feel like a turd off the line and the throttle response is lackluster because of the optimized-for-mpg drive by wire tuning ford does.

Low-end torque can be deceiving to the butt-o-meter....the f-150 is a dog but has good low-end torque so it feels faster. Feeling faster and being faster are two different things...hell my old 92 350 TBI felt "faster" than my hemi but it would be lucky to crack 16's.

So basically the powerbands are all different for all 4 of those engines. I was hoping the new adjusting runners on the new intake manifold would help move some torque down but I guess not.

The new HEMI has something like 300 ft-lbs available at 1200 RPM. I've said it before and I'll; say it again, I think it is the drive by wire crap limiting torque off the line.

Well whatever it was, both the dodge and the chevy crawled off the line from a dead stop to about 45-50. There was absolutely nothing to the low end. Again take it for what its worth, this is only my opinion but from what I have driven, power wise, I am not impressed.

It could easily be the throttle by wire, my brother has an 05 F150 and my other buddy has an 06 f150 (both have 3.73 LS/5.4 4x4, crew) my 04 ram QC 4x4 with 3.92 gears kills them both, they don't even want to race anymore. I will say that for an instant right off the line they surge ahead for about 60 feet, then mine goes past them with ease.

I'd have to see that to believe it...2200rpms would be a little more believable.
