+1 on that. If size is any indicator, the manual transmissions in the latest Dodges have to be strong. The Getrag 238 in my Dakota is a monster. Definitely not a race trans though, shifting too quickly, or when cold, gives you some nice "feedback" (aka stick bouncing off the lockout rings).

Well,

I am now officially a soccer mom.

I got a crew cab hemi 4 wheel drive big horn with trailer tow, premium seating, big gas tank, 20" chrome wheels, 3.55 gears. $27,930. I thought it was a pretty good deal, the sticker was over 40.

Check out Innovative Customs here in Utah. They know their stuff and with some cash out of pocket, they can build you a long bed. www.innovativecustoms.net.

God your right about the leafs in the back. I'm sure it's a nice thing to have but I don't need a car. I want something thats not gonna drag the pavement when I'm towing my 8k trailor. I think all new trucks come with the independant front suspension now regardless if it's a 4x4 or not. My 99 is a 4x4 and I love the fact it's got a solid axle

lol manual transmission weaker than an automatic. that's the biggest crock of **** i've ever heard.

The last year for manual trans in the 1500s as well as a long bed on an extended cab was 08. I know for the manual trans because well I own one. The manual trans is not a mistake.

altho to the OP i would not say this is why chrysler is doing poorly. As of last year chrysler was the only company to offer a stick shift in a half ton truck. welcome to the pickup truck industry at least for half tons. Stick shifts have been dying out in half tons for years. ford stopped way back in like 03 or so nissan and toyota never had one in the newer generations and chevy i'm not sure when they stopped 05 or so.

and the transmissions as far as stick go from dodge are bulletproof. All are mercedes made getrag gearboxes that are basically indestructable. I love looking at my window sticker seeing Transmission-Made in GERMANY lol.

Well the 238 in Rams and Dakotas is a Getrag model. The G56 is a Mercedes model...maybe Getrag actually does the manufacturing, idk,

The G56 is used in Mercedes medium duty trucks with engines up to 500 ft-lb. I guess they upgraded or certified it for the 600+ ft-lb of a Cummins.

The 238 can handle the new 4.7's, at 330ft-lb, so it's no slouch either.

I'd agree with that; I've been driving my 238 in cold weather for so long, I forget what it feels like in summer. When all that trans fluid is warm, it is very smooth.

Any longitudinal manual trans feels better than a cable-shifted box. You get all the fun vibrations and gear whine

My 6sp is quiet, even in 1st 4 low at 2000, Shifter never vibrates, all manuals I have owned prior to my Ram 2500 were dancers.

I just can't drive a automatic, No control on slippery roads, And for a heavy truck I can stop it quicker than most cars a 1/4 of the Rams bulk.

THe E brake release sucks, esp when you put the E brake on with dirty boots and than release it, showers ya in dirt.

You really are a more in tune driver with a Manual, I worship being in control and staying with in the trucks abillity.
