I totaled my 08 ram last week and am headed out to put money down on an 09 Laramie (if they'll deal). Before I do, is there anything you all think I should look for or avoid?
You have to set your price, not the dealer, Your not buying your truck, your buying the dealers, you can walk away if need be.
New trucks never go away.
Sales person, sales mangers, Finance person all work to get you, don't go for the life insurance, don't buy extended service contracts ( Some contracts only give you a car, not a truck, if your Ram is a work truck, service contracts are pointless )
Don't buy oil change packages in bulk, you wasted your money if you move, or if the dealer P you off and you don't go back.
Don't add goodies on to the truck and than add it to your payments, pay for the goodies up front.
Don't over budget, stay with in your means, Trucks really suck the life out of you when they take your quality of life just to be paid for.
SL SLT Laramie RT/T Sport ect, its all the same truck, underneath...
Don't trade in if your upside down, any special deals are added into the payments for the new truck, and if you do trade, stick with your value of your trade, don't settle for the dealers.
Understand that once you buy, it will be cheaper the next day, just the way it is ...
Don't lease, you pay to own nothing + pay for wear and tear that you don't have to if you don't want to with your own truck.
Tax perks are a lot better when you own it.
Now after you buy your truck, enjoy it and talk nice to it !!!!

I did end up buying one, but like you suggested I went with a sport instead of a laramie. I just couldn't justify the higher price. I'm supposed to be able to pick it up tomorrow......Cant wait!
As far as talking nice to it, I did that with my 08, my wife thought I was crazy, but when we crashed my truck took care of me.
I don't think he's being unreasonable, I think he's just telling it how it is. Trucks are not hot sellers right now, and the buyer has the power (not that the buyer doesn't have the power anyway).
My money is reasonable, I buy what I want, with in reason, The last chap who I bought my truck from made reasonable money for my 10 min work filling out a factory order.
