MIL light
Well, 720 miles on my brand new 2009 ram and I had the check engine light come on today. Does anyone know how the get it to tell the the mil code. I know that on my last dodge I could cycle the ignition three times and it would display the code. I tried it a couple times with my '09 and it didn't work. Can anyone tell me how to get the code to display.
Go to any auto parts store...wal mart here carries them.
Buy a cheap...or real nice..OBD2 Code reader.
Plug is under the instument panel below the steering wheel.
Plug the reader in, read the code.

or TAKE IT TO DODGE, that is what I would do. Should NOT be throwing codes.
It could be something simple. IE: Low tire pressure
I think a scan tool...code reader is a valuable instrument to have around. Works on all cars past 1996...OBD1 a few years prior.
Clears trouble codes...maybe something missed once, clear it and see if it happens again.
I could go on. Good to have.
But if a code (check engine light) came up on my truck. My first stop would be Dodge.
Having said that, it would be nice to know what is wrong before driving it, know its safe or not to drive without further damage.
I would suggest not driving it until you know what the code is.
Could be a big problem, might be nothing.
