Thumbs up 2009 1500 first long haul

2009 1500 Crew 2 WD first extended trip from Los Angeles to Mammoth Mountain for some snowboarding. We drove my new Ram through hail, ice, constant snow, heavy rain, low visibility, and crazy winds over the weekend and have come to one conclusion... This damn truck ROCKS! This Ram gives the driver such confidence that I almost offered the wife to get behind the wheel! ALMOST! The gas mileage best at 18.7 hwy even through all this weather. The handling on ice and in snow was unbelievable. The remote start had the truck warm, defrosted, and ready to hit the road without us even stepping out of the condo.

This is good to hear. I am going to be driving to New Jersey in March.

I also put mine in 4hi to get through the snow here in Iowa. It handled very well.

Doc,

Mammoth is a good 5 hour drive (5 - 14 - 395) The up coming weekend is expected to have one of the best conditions of the year if you want to ski, board, or even tubing for the kids.
Highly recommend Mammoth! Where ever you end up you'll have a grin that can't be erased throughout your drive!

All,

This is the first vehicle that I have driven to Mammoth (02 Yukon, 03 Accord, 02 Honda Odyssey) that I did not suffer from driver fatigue. Even with the in climate weather I had to drive in... honestly it was so relaxing it should be against the law. I'm not blowing smoke.... you'll see.

I agree about the ride quality. It impressed me tremendously when I test drove one several months ago. Of course as you can see, I now own one, and traded in my Charger R/T to get it.

Well let's hope you guys are right, and the ride is awesome. Leaving for florida next week 1200 miles each way. Just hope the gas mileage gets better with time. My 2006 was getting around 20 mpg on the highway at 70 to 75 mph. But I'll sacrifice some mileage to keep my but in this truck.

that snow reminds me of back in the days in Indiana. I remember with my 1998 ram while driving on a black iced out highway, my rear end slid out going 14 mph and i ended up looking the wrong way!

luckily everyone else was doing 14 mph also and i got it turned around safely. Anyway, i noticed you had chains on your rear tires, how did the traction hold up?

I have a 11 month old and we can get stuck in my 2wd up there... my wife would flip lol.

and i agree with you guys about driving fatigue. I have a 9 mile commute to work which takes 1 hour in stop and go traffic... but the comfy seats never get me restless... I really love this truck!
